Club América Femenil Defeats Dallas Trinity FC 3-1 in Record-Breaking State Fair Clásico at Cotton Bowl

The atmosphere inside the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium was electric on Saturday night as Dallas Trinity FC faced Liga MX powerhouse Club América Femenil in the first-ever State Fair Clásico — a match that blended international flair with Texas-sized spectacle.
Played during the final weekend of the State Fair of Texas, the event drew a massive crowd of 22,838, setting a new state record for the largest crowd at a professional women’s sporting event. The milestone surpassed the previous mark of 21,284, set in 2022 when the Kansas City Current faced the Houston Dash. It also shattered the Dallas record of 20,409 fans who attended a Dallas Wings game earlier this year at American Airlines Center.
For both clubs, the numbers told a powerful story about the growth of women’s soccer. The match was Dallas Trinity FC’s largest home crowd ever — far surpassing their previous high of just under 6,000. For Club América Femenil, it was also a milestone, marking their most-attended game on U.S. soil, eclipsing the 14,769 fans who watched them in San Diego during the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup.
And the action on the field lived up to the stage. América struck first in the 34th minute when Sarah Luebbert broke through the Dallas backline to put the visitors ahead. Just five minutes later, Bruna Villamala doubled the lead with a clinical finish, sending América fans into celebration. The Liga MX giants weren’t done — Annia Mejía added a third on the stroke of halftime, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to make it 3-0 before the break.
Despite the deficit, Dallas Trinity FC showed heart and determination in the second half. Academy forward Sealey Strawn provided a spark in the 70th minute, heading home a precise cross from Camryn Lancaster to bring the score to 3-1. The goal drew huge cheers from the local crowd and gave the young club something to build on as the match wore down.
Before the night ended, Walmart was announced as the presenting partner of the Trinity Star Trophy, symbolizing community pride and excellence in the inaugural State Fair Clásico. Walmart representatives awarded the gleaming new trophy to Club América Femenil, celebrating not just victory on the field but a shared spirit of competition and unity.
While Dallas Trinity FC fell 3-1 to a more experienced opponent, the match itself was a monumental success — a showcase of how far women’s soccer has come in Texas and how much bigger it can still get.
