Every June, the U.S. Open transforms from aspiration into reality for a select few golfers. In 2025, 156 players will tee it up at the storied Oakmont Country Club, each with their own path to one of golf’s most grueling tests. Among them are established stars, emerging amateurs, and battle-tested veterans—all united by the same goal: to claim the U.S. Open trophy at one of the sport’s most formidable venues.

The U.S. Open is famously egalitarian. Of the 10,202 entrants approved by the USGA in April, only 156 earned a tee time—an elite club carved from ambition, endurance, and precision. While 87 players gained full exemptions (based on previous performances or championship status), another 32 earned their spots through 36 holes of Final Qualifying. Remarkably, a further 16 fought their way through both 18-hole Local Qualifying and the grueling “Golf’s Longest Day” of Final Qualifying—a path last traveled to victory by Orville Moody in 1969.

This year, 15 amateurs and 15 LIV golfers have secured places, underscoring the evolving landscape of the game. The international influence is strong, with competitors representing 26 countries.
