Our Mission
Creating a place to earn your shot
Undrafted exists to open doors for the next generation of sports journalists, photographers, reporters, and creators.
We believe talented people should not be overlooked because they lack connections, experience, or a recognizable name. They should have a place to develop their skills, produce meaningful work, and prove what they can do.
Our mission is to create that place.
Real opportunities. Real experience.
Breaking into sports media can feel impossible without someone willing to give you your first assignment, credential, byline, or chance to stand on the sideline.
Undrafted gives emerging contributors hands-on opportunities to cover real teams, events, athletes, and stories.
That experience can become a published portfolio, a stronger professional network, greater confidence, and the foundation for a lasting career in sports media.
We do not believe people should have to wait until someone decides they are ready. We believe they become ready by doing the work.
Building a better path into sports media
The traditional path into sports journalism is not equally accessible to everyone.
Talent can be found anywhere, but opportunity is often concentrated around certain schools, markets, organizations, and personal connections. That leaves capable writers, photographers, and creators without a clear way to gain the experience employers expect them to already have.
Undrafted helps close that gap.
We provide a platform where emerging contributors can learn through experience, receive guidance, develop professional standards, and create work that shows what they are capable of.
A newsroom with a purpose
Our development mission does not replace our responsibility as a sports media company.
Undrafted is a newsroom first.
We publish original reporting, photography, analysis, and commentary across college and professional sports. Every story should be accurate, thoughtful, and worth the audience’s time.
Creating opportunities and producing credible coverage are not competing goals. Each one makes the other stronger.
Our contributors gain meaningful experience because the work matters. Our coverage becomes stronger because it includes new perspectives, local knowledge, and people hungry to tell the story well.
What opportunity looks like
Opportunity can begin with a first byline, a first credential, or a first professional photo assignment.
It can mean learning how to prepare for a press conference, communicate with an athletic department, meet a deadline, edit a gallery, interview an athlete, or report responsibly from a live event.
It can also mean making mistakes, receiving honest feedback, and returning to the next assignment better prepared.
We are not here to promise anyone a career. We are here to provide the experience, expectations, and platform that can help them build one.
Core values
Opportunity Over Pedigree
Talent, work ethic, and potential should matter more than connections, credentials, or where someone started.
Stories Over Clicks
We prioritize meaningful, well-told sports stories instead of chasing empty traffic or sensational headlines.
Credibility Over Hype
Trust has to be earned through accurate reporting, professional standards, and responsible access.
People Before Platforms
Contributors are people building careers, not content machines. Their development matters beyond what they produce for Undrafted.
Progress Over Perfection
Emerging journalists need real opportunities to learn, improve, and prove themselves through the work.
Journalism First
Undrafted should always feel like a credible sports newsroom first. The opportunity and development mission supports the coverage rather than overshadowing it.
The next generation needs a place to begin
Every established journalist, photographer, or creator was once waiting for someone to take them seriously.
Undrafted was built to be that opportunity.
A place to gain experience. A place to build trust. A place to make mistakes, improve, and return stronger. A place where the work can speak before the resume does.
We are here to cover sports with credibility, develop talent with purpose, and give the next generation of sports media professionals a place to earn their shot.
