Orioles Set Opening Day Home Run Record in 12–2 Rout of Blue Jays

The Orioles opened their season with a record-setting six home runs in a dominant 12–2 win over the Blue Jays. Tyler O’Neill made history with his sixth straight Opening Day homer — and did it on home soil in Canada.

Opening Day arrived with plenty of questions for both the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles, however, wasted no time delivering a resounding answer, launching six home runs in a dominant 12–2 rout at Rogers Centre.

Baltimore entered the season needing to replace All-Star Anthony Santander, who signed with Toronto in the offseason. His replacement, Tyler O’Neill, proved more than up to the task, crushing a three-run homer. The blast extended O’Neill’s own MLB record, making it six consecutive Opening Days with a home run — and he did so in his home country of Canada.

O’Neill wasn’t the only Oriole to flex his power. Adley Rutschman and Cedric Mullins each smacked two homers, while Jordan Westburg joined the long-ball party with one of his own. Baltimore’s six home runs set a new franchise record for Opening Day, surpassing the previous mark of four. Seven of the team’s nine starters recorded at least one hit, underscoring a well-rounded offensive onslaught.

Though the bats stole the show, Opening Day starter Zach Eflin delivered a strong outing of his own. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and allowed just two runs on two hits over six solid innings.

As for the Blue Jays, their season opened with more questions than answers. With the franchise failing to secure a contract extension for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., uncertainty looms large. Suffering a lopsided 12–2 loss does little to ease concerns. Toronto will look to regroup in its next game, with Kevin Gausman set to take the mound.
