Versatility is a valued commodity in today’s NHL. For the Detroit Red Wings, Michael Rasmussen is just that type of player; his versatility has made him a very valuable part of the organization. GM Steve Yzerman locked up the young Rasmussen by inking him to a 4-year deal that will pay him an AAV of $3.2M- per year, meanwhile, coach Derek Lalonde has a player he has inserted all over the lineup.

Michael Rasmussen was drafted ninth overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Level Draft, since that time Rasmussen has developed into a very dependable player without true definition. Rasmussen has played left wing on a heavy checking line, he has played wing on the top line, Rasmussen has centered the Red Wing’s fourth line and he has time as third line center as well.

For Rasmussen his game is consistent and does not care where he is asked to play; “I can play anywhere in the lineup and help out however I can. I just try to do that to the best of my ability,” Rasmussen said. It should be noted that Rasmussen is effective on the penalty kill and Lalonde has hinted he wants to start giving him time on the power play net-front with his size.

Locking Rasmussen up was a smart move by the Red Wings as it keeps him in a Winged Wheel jersey for the prime of his career.
