UCONN Men's Basketball Team Endures Accommodation Nightmare in Las Vegas

The University of Connecticut (UCONN) men’s basketball team experienced a nightmare in Las Vegas after significant issues with their accommodations at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, according to David Borges of CT Insider. The NCAA is in charge of booking hotels for each team, and UCONN was assigned to the MGM-owned hotel, which is located less than a mile from where the team was set to play its next two games if they continued winning.

However, upon arrival at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, UCONN discovered their rooms to be in terrible condition, with dirt, vomit, and “worse” according to Borges. The team immediately notified the NCAA of the issue and was moved to a nearby “high-level” hotel.

While UCONN athletic director David Benedict stated that he didn’t want to make a big deal out of the situation, puke and “worse” certainly sounds like a significant issue. The NCAA should have considered booking a “high-level” hotel for a Sweet Sixteen team that is generating a lot of revenue with its performance in March Madness, rather than assigning them to a hotel that is not considered to be among the top ten nicest places to stay in Las Vegas.

Despite the accommodation nightmare, the UCONN men’s basketball team emerged victorious over Arkansas in the Sweet Sixteen with an 88-65 win.

The team arrived in Las Vegas on Tuesday to get ahead of the time change and settle in before the game. With their hotel issues resolved, the team can now focus on the upcoming Elite Eight game, which will take place at the same venue, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
