PORTLAND, Ore. -- One venue day. Two shutouts. On June 14, Salmon Bay FC edged the Portland Cherry Bombs 1-0 in USL W League play on Ginny Lackey's 53rd-minute strike, and Ballard FC completed a season double over the Portland Bangers with a 2-0 USL League Two road win that returned the PNW Keg Cup to Seattle. Undrafted covered both ends of a Portland soccer Saturday that left the home sides searching for answers and the visitors packing clean sheets.

Neither result was loud early. Both were decided by quality in the second half -- or, in Ballard's case, by a free-kick dagger after a red card flipped the math. By night's end, Portland's USL W and League Two hosts had combined for zero goals and two losses on the same card.

Salmon Bay 1, Cherry Bombs 0

The USL W opener stayed scoreless through a half of half-chances. Salmon Bay broke through in the 53rd when Lackey finished the game's only goal. That was enough. Portland Cherry Bombs FC could not find an equalizer against a visitor content to protect a one-goal lead on the road. Final: Salmon Bay 1, Cherry Bombs 0.

Thin on box-score public detail beyond the scoreline and Lackey's winner, the match still fits the Undrafted brief: a Portland-hosted USL W result with a clear scorer, a clear minute, and a clear shutout. Lackey's strike is the headline. The Cherry Bombs' home night without a goal is the film-session problem. For Salmon Bay, a road clean sheet and three points in the W League table are the tangible return from a mid-June trip south.

In a doubleheader environment, the W League result set a tone -- visitors first on the scoreboard, home sides chasing -- that League Two would amplify an hour later in a louder way.

Ballard 2, Bangers 0

Ballard FC knocked off the top-of-the-table Portland Bangers for the second time in as many weeks, this time on the road in Oregon. Zach Ramsey and Cianole Nguepissi scored. Debut goalkeeper Noah Newman posted a shutout. The PNW Keg Cup headed back to the 206. Final: Ballard 2, Bangers 0.

The first 15 minutes were feeling-out. In the 16th, Vala Saghafi's long shot forced a catch from Newman. Milo Wray nearly opened for Portland in the 19th -- a backheel flick put him clear, his shot beat Newman, and the ball skittered inches beyond the far post. The ensuing counter changed everything. A long high clearance found Ramsey 35 yards from goal. He dribbled through a pair of defenders before Loic Baures tugged the jersey and earned a red card for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Baures walked. Ramsey stood over a free kick just outside the box. The first-round MLS SuperDraft pick bent it over the wall and in -- 1-0 Ballard, first direct free-kick goal of 2026 for the club, and a man advantage that would define the rest of the night. Portland kept committing numbers forward despite the deficit in personnel, which only created more transition looks for Ballard. A 10-yard chance was blocked in the 28th. Newman pushed aside Ethan Doud's long shot through traffic in the 30th. Halftime: 1-0.

Aiden Marquez pulled a shot wide for Portland in the 49th. Ballard settled into control. A shot struck the Bangers' crossbar from a corner in the 60th. Two minutes later, Nguepissi volleyed home off a corner -- assisted by Ramsey -- for his first Ballard FC goal and a 2-0 cushion. Up a player and two goals, Ballard closed it out. Etienne Veillard earned player of the match for dominant play on the right flank that helped protect the clean sheet.

What It Means

Newman's first start produced Ballard's third shutout of the season and first on the road. Ramsey's free kick and assist made him the game's central creator. Nguepissi's first club goal was the insurance. Combined with the earlier 3-1 win over Portland, the 2-0 sealed the 2026 Keg Cup for Ballard. In the NW Division table, Ballard sat second, two points behind Snohomish United -- a road statement against a national top-10 side that will travel well in the standings conversation.

For the Bangers, a red card in the 21st minute after Wray's near-miss is the sliding-doors moment. A post away from 1-0 up with 11, then suddenly down a man and down a goal on a set piece. Chasing for 70-plus minutes against a Ballard side happy to counter is a difficult ask in League Two, even for a club sitting atop the local table before kickoff.

Salmon Bay's W League win is quieter in the public record but no less real on the points column. Lackey at 53 minutes. Clean sheet. Road three points. The Cherry Bombs will want more from a home date than a one-goal deficit that never flipped. Stacked next to Ballard's Keg Cup night, the doubleheader reads as a Portland host card that belonged to the visitors from the Puget Sound corridor.

The Close

Lackey scored. Ramsey bent one. Nguepissi volleyed. Newman blanked. Baures walked. Two shutouts. One Keg Cup. One W League road win. That is the June 14 Undrafted doubleheader ledger in Portland -- USL W and USL League Two sharing a calendar and sharing a theme.

Some Saturdays give you one story. This one gave two shutouts and a trophy moving north. The Cherry Bombs and Bangers will want rematches with different scripts. Salmon Bay and Ballard will take the points and the cup. Undrafted left with both cards filled: Lackey's winner for the W, Ramsey and Nguepissi for League Two, and a Portland soccer day that belonged to the visitors.
