Travelers Championship Round 3: Tommy Fleetwood Takes Three-Shot Lead as Scheffler Unravels
Tommy Fleetwood shot a bogey-free 63 to lead the Travelers Championship by three over Russell Henley and Keegan Bradley, while Scottie Scheffler opened with a triple bogey on his birthday.

The wind finally laid down at TPC River Highlands on Saturday, and the course paid for it. Tommy Fleetwood did not need an invitation.
Fleetwood shot a bogey-free 7-under 63 to reach 16-under 194 and take a three-shot lead into the final round of the Travelers Championship. Russell Henley, who fired the low round of the week with a 61, and Keegan Bradley, who shot 63, are tied for second at 13 under. Jason Day (67) is alone in fourth at 11 under. Scottie Scheffler, who started the day sharing the lead, shot 72 and fell nine back.
Twenty-One Fairways and Counting
Fleetwood's Saturday was a ball-striking clinic. He did not miss a fairway all day, something he admitted he did not even realize until after he signed his card, and by CBS Sports' count he split 21 straight heading into Sunday. That kind of control on a hot, calm day was a cheat code. The field averaged 68, per the AP, and Fleetwood was five shots better than that without ever seeming to force it.
The putter showed up too. At the par-3 fifth, Fleetwood rolled in a birdie from roughly 65 feet. At the par-5 13th, the hole that has become his personal ATM, he used the flat stick from just off the green and dropped a 30-footer for eagle, his second eagle there in as many days and his third of the week. Through 54 holes, he has gone 32 straight holes without a bogey.
It is the largest 54-hole lead of his PGA TOUR career, according to CBS Sports.
The Weight of the Wait
Here is the part everybody in Cromwell knows. Fleetwood has seven DP World Tour titles and three Ryder Cups on his résumé and zero PGA TOUR wins. CBS Sports counts 41 top-10 finishes on TOUR without a victory, the most of any active player in that spot. There was the missed birdie chance in regulation at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open before Nick Taylor won in a playoff, plus close calls in majors.
Fleetwood is not hiding from that history. He called Saturday's position "my first real chance" and said he was excited about it. That is an honest way to frame it. He has been close before, but never with a three-shot cushion and 18 holes to go.
Henley Goes Low, Bradley Stays Hot
Henley's 61 had a backstory. One day earlier, on the eighth green, he called a penalty on himself after deciding his ball had moved, even though he was not entirely certain. He said it was simply the right thing to do. Saturday, the golf gods paid him back with nine birdies, nine pars and a bogey-free card. He went 5 under on the front nine and birdied both par-5s, a round he described as putting great and doing everything pretty well.
Bradley, the 2023 Travelers champion and U.S. Ryder Cup captain, birdied four of his first seven holes and kept the pressure on for a 63. He knows exactly what Sunday requires, saying a score in the mid-60s is the minimum and probably not enough.
Day stayed in the hunt with a 67 to sit five back.
A Birthday to Forget
Scheffler turned 29 on Saturday, and the first hole was not a present. He pulled his tee shot into 5-inch rough at the par-4 opener, wedged into a front bunker, blasted over the green, watched a pitch from the fringe come up short and roll back into the rough, then flopped to 15 feet and two-putted for triple bogey. It was his first triple on the PGA TOUR since the 2024 BMW Championship, per the AP.
It got worse at the par-3 eighth, where his tee shot found the water for a double bogey. Dating to Friday's mess at 17, that made three double bogeys or worse in a 10-hole span for the world No. 1. A birdie at the last salvaged a 72 and a share of eighth at 7 under, and it was only his fifth over-par round of 2025, per the AP. That says plenty about how high the bar is.
JT's 9
Justin Thomas, also part of Friday's three-way tie, had a worse turn. At the par-5 13th, his tee shot went way left toward the railroad tracks after the club slipped in his hands. After the penalty, two chips failed to climb a slope and rolled back to him, and a missed 6-footer completed a quadruple-bogey 9. Thomas shot 73 and fell 10 back.
Elsewhere, the calm conditions produced fireworks deeper in the field. Taylor Pendrith and Adam Scott each shot 62, and Matt Fitzpatrick and Aaron Rai posted 63s. Rory McIlroy shot 68 despite a double bogey at 12 and sits at 7 under alongside Scheffler. Brian Harman (65), Wyndham Clark (66) and Harris English (67) share fifth at 8 under.
Sunday's Question
No one outside the top four is within eight shots, so this is a four-player race, and really a referendum on one. Fleetwood has the lead, the ball-striking and a putter that has behaved all week. Henley and Bradley have the momentum of a 61 and a 63. Sunday will tell us whether the best player without a PGA TOUR win finally gets to drop that label.
