Smotherman Goes Back to Back in Bermuda After Wind Wipes Out Sunday and a Monday Playoff Decides It
Austin Smotherman won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on the third hole of a Monday playoff against Seamus Power after Sunday's final round was canceled for wind, his second PGA Tour win in as many starts.

Austin Smotherman went 99 PGA Tour starts without a win. He now has two in a row. Smotherman beat Seamus Power with a par on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff on Monday morning, Oct. 26, to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course, a day after wind so strong the final round was canceled as unplayable. Both players had finished 54 holes at 16-under 197.
The playoff was played on the par-3 16th hole, with the wind gusting off the Atlantic to the left of the green, according to The Associated Press. Both made par the first time through, Power missing a 20-foot birdie putt that would have won it. On the second extra hole, Power saved par with an 8-footer after finding a bunker. With the pin moved to the front of the green for the third, Smotherman hit an 8-iron inside 15 feet. Power's tee shot buried in deep rough left of the green; he chopped it out to just outside 15 feet and missed the par putt.
Smotherman's rounds were 65, 66 and 66; Power shot 66, 64 and 67. Taylor Moore, Ben Silverman and Corey Conners tied for third at 14 under, two shots out of the playoff.
Three weeks earlier, Smotherman won the Bank of Utah Championship for his first PGA Tour title in his 100th career start. The second win moves him to No. 51 in the FedExCup standings, which secures starts in next season's first two $20 million Signature Events, at Pebble Beach and Riviera, and the two full-points victories put him in the 2027 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, according to the AP. The winner's share of the $6 million purse was $1,080,000.
Power, who came to Bermuda at No. 103 in the standings and in need of a result to keep full status for 2027, earned $654,000 for second place and moved to No. 68. The top 100 at the end of the FedExCup Fall keep their cards.
The FedExCup Fall continues this week at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open in Vallarta, which runs Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.
