UAB Puts an End to the Memorial Magic

Nashville-based Vanderbilt’s NIT (National Invitation Tournament) run came to an end with a 67-59 loss against the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) in the quarterfinals. Despite Vanderbilt narrowing the margin to two points with 52 seconds left, UAB ended the game on an 8-2 run to advance to the NIT semifinals in Las Vegas. Vanderbilt head coach, Jerry Stackhouse, acknowledged that UAB played a good game, while his team didn’t have the performances they needed to win. This season, Vanderbilt won 22 games overall, including victories over multiple ranked teams, and finished at least seven games over .500 for the first time since 2014-15. UAB will now face either Cincinnati or Utah Valley in the NIT semifinals. In 1994, Vanderbilt last made it to the NIT semifinals.
