Wings vs. Fever: Arike Ogunbowale's 32 Spoils Kelsey Mitchell's WNBA-Record 21st Straight 20-Point Game
Arike Ogunbowale scored a season-high 32 as the Dallas Wings beat the Indiana Fever 91-85, spoiling a 37-point night in which Kelsey Mitchell set a WNBA record with her 21st straight game of at least 20 points.

Kelsey Mitchell got the record. The Dallas Wings got the win. On a Thursday night when 20,297 people packed the American Airlines Center, plenty of them in Caitlin Clark's No. 22, Mitchell scored 21 points before halftime and owned a piece of WNBA history before the second half even started.
It still wasn't enough. Arike Ogunbowale's 32 points were a season high, Jessica Shepard's 26 a career best, and together they carried the Wings past the Indiana Fever 91-85 to stop a five-game Indiana winning streak. Mitchell finished with 37, matching her season high, and that 20th point earned her a WNBA record with her 21st consecutive game of at least 20 points, moving her past A'ja Wilson's old mark.
A Grind With No Big Swings
There wasn't a single run of eight or more points in this game, which tells you what kind of night it was. Nine lead changes, two teams trading body blows, nobody able to land the punch that ended it. Indiana led 22-18 after one, Dallas won the second 24-20, and the teams went to the locker room tied at 42.
The most entertaining moment of the first half came in its final seconds. Paige Bueckers tried to foul Clark on purpose, the new USA Basketball teammates got tangled up instead, and on the inbound play that followed with 5.4 seconds left, Mitchell scored on a layup to hit 20. A strange little sequence for a record to hinge on, but she'll take it.
The Wings edged the third quarter 24-19 and led 66-61, matching their biggest lead to that point. Then, with Bueckers resting to open the fourth, they kept pushing. When she came back, Bueckers hit a jumper that made it 74-64, Dallas' first double-digit lead of the night.
Indiana never went away, mostly because Mitchell refused to let it. Ogunbowale's 12-foot pull-up made it 81-70 at the five-minute mark, and the Fever kept chipping from there. Mitchell's three-point play at 50.6 seconds made it 85-79, and her free throws at 12.8 seconds cut the gap to 90-85. That was as close as it got. Ogunbowale knocked down a free throw with 5.8 seconds left to finish it.
Ogunbowale Takes Over, Shepard Bullies
Ogunbowale made 12 of 22 shots and 6 of 7 free throws, and she scored when Dallas needed someone to stop the bleeding. Her 12-foot pull-up and a 7-footer at the 3:08 mark kept the Fever at bay, and she sank three more free throws in the last 19 seconds, the exact kind of closing work a home team needs against a club that had won five in a row.
Shepard was the difference inside. She went 11 of 16 with eight rebounds, the biggest piece of an interior attack that outscored Indiana 46-28 in the paint.
Then there was Awak Kuier, who turned the rim into a no-fly zone. Her seven blocks were a career high, and five of them came before the break, which by itself matched her previous best from 2021. She also had 11 points and eight rebounds. Dallas needed all of it, since Alanna Smith was limited to 10 minutes with five fouls. Maddy Siegrist helped fill the gap, scoring just two points but posting a team-best plus-16 in 16 minutes.
The stars everyone circled had a tougher time. Clark finished with 10 points and nine assists on 4-of-15 shooting. Bueckers had 13 points, eight assists and six rebounds without a turnover, but she made just 5 of 16 shots. Together they went 9 of 31, six days after each dropped 29 in Indiana's 98-87 win over Dallas, and two weeks before they're expected to debut with the senior U.S. national team at the FIBA World Cup alongside Aliyah Boston.
Mitchell, meanwhile, was a one-woman bailout. She made 9 of 18 shots, 4 of 7 from deep and all 15 of her free throws. Boston added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Makayla Timpson had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Turning Point
The start of the fourth quarter, with Bueckers on the bench. This is usually where a good road team pounces. Instead the Wings held serve without Bueckers, then watched her return and stretch the margin to 10. Indiana spent the rest of the night scrambling, and even Mitchell's heroics only got the Fever within five.
Stats That Matter
- 46-28: Dallas' advantage in paint points.
- 8-3: The Wings' edge in blocks, with Kuier responsible for seven.
- 24 of 26: Indiana at the free throw line, against 18 of 27 for Dallas. The Fever won that battle by a wide margin and lost anyway.
- 15 of 15: Mitchell at the stripe.
- 9 of 31: Clark and Bueckers combined from the field.
What It Means
Dallas improves to 21-16 and 11-6 at home, snapping a two-game losing streak by our recount and taking the season series from Indiana 2-1. Even so, Dallas has only four wins in the 12 games since its six-game winning streak, which the AP noted was the franchise's longest since moving to Texas 10 years ago. Next up is Seattle on Sunday.
Indiana falls to 24-13 and 11-7 on the road. The AP pointed out that this was Indiana's first crack at a franchise record for victories, and the Fever stay parked at 24, the same total as last season. Their next shot comes Saturday in New York.
Closing Take
The building had plenty of star power without the players. Mark Cuban, a Mavericks minority owner, sat courtside, and Cooper Flagg, the NBA's reigning Rookie of the Year and the top pick in 2025, watched from a suite. What they saw played out like one of those Oscar nights where Best Actress goes to one film and Best Picture goes to another. Mitchell walked out with the performance everyone will remember, and it deserves the plaque. Ogunbowale and Dallas walked out with the only thing that shows up in the standings.
