Hops Bash Three Homers in 10-2 Rout of Canadians to Claim Season Series
Owusu-Asiedu, Virahonda, and Soler homered as Hillsboro beat Vancouver 10-2 to split the series and win the season set.

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Three home runs. Ten runs. A series split locked and a season series claimed. The Hillsboro Hops bludgeoned the Vancouver Canadians 10-2 on July 26 at Hops Ballpark behind long balls from Avery Owusu-Asiedu, Carlos Virahonda, and Yassel Soler.
Hillsboro scored in four different innings, piled up nine hits, and watched the bullpen retire the final 10 Vancouver hitters. David Hagaman set the tone. Mason Marriott debuted with two perfect innings and three strikeouts. Sawyer Hawks closed. The Canadians wrapped a nine-game road trip without a series win since mid-April.

Early Flood, Then the Bombs
The Hops jumped Silvano Hechavarria in the first -- three runs on one hit, helped by two walks, two hit batters, and a balk. Alexis Hernandez answered with a leadoff solo shot in the second to cut it to 3-1. Hillsboro immediately pushed two more across for 5-1. Hechavarria was gone early, charged with the loss (0-3).
Owusu-Asiedu crushed his 10th homer of the year to left in the fourth, making it 6-1. In the fifth, Kayson Cunningham walked, Virahonda hammered his 16th of the season, and Soler followed two pitches later with a shot off the foul pole for his ninth. Back-to-back homers for the second time this season. Lead: 9-1, then 9-2 after Jake Casey's RBI groundout. A bases-loaded walk in the eighth made it 10-2.
Vancouver managed a Ryan Sprock double in the middle innings and little else once the Hops' pen took over. Luke Craig escaped the sixth. Marriott was perfect. Hawks worked around two ninth-inning singles. The final 10 Canadians made outs in order of efficiency.

What It Means
A series split against a Northwest League rival is useful. Clinching the season series is better. Hillsboro stayed on a 12-game homestand and welcomed Everett next. Vancouver headed home still searching for a series win that has been missing since April.
Virahonda's 16th homer keeps him among the loudest bats in the league. Owusu-Asiedu's 10th and Soler's ninth give the middle of the order three threats who can end innings before they start. Hagaman's outing plus a debut from Marriott is the pitching depth note.

The Close
Some Sunday finales are cautious. This one was a three-homer statement. Owusu-Asiedu, Virahonda, Soler -- and a 10-2 final that split the set and won the season series. Hops Ballpark got the fireworks it wanted.

The film will show the back-to-back fifth-inning bombs and the first-inning free passes that started the flood. That is how these nights work -- one early mess for the visitor starter, one middle-inning power display, one bullpen lockdown, and the narrative locks in before the next series starts. Fans leave loud or quiet. Coaches leave with clips. Players leave knowing July does not forgive unfinished chances.
Vancouver's road trip ends with another series that got away. Hillsboro's homestand continues with momentum and a reminder that when the long ball shows up in bunches, High-A games stop being close.
Hechavarria's early exit was the tipping point Vancouver never recovered from. Free passes and a balk in the first are the kinds of self-inflicted wounds that turn nine-hit losses into double-digit losses. The Canadians' pen limited further humiliation without erasing the hole.
For Hillsboro, scoring in four separate innings is the mark of an offense that does not need one big frame to feel dangerous. The three-homer night supplies the social clips. The bullpen's final 10 outs supply the professional finish. Homestands are won with both.
Northwest League rivalries do not always need one-run theater. Sometimes they need a Sunday thrashing that settles the season series and sends the visitor home thinking about April's last series win. Hillsboro delivered that version. Vancouver absorbed it.
