FRISCO, Texas — FC Dallas had the lead, then the equalizer, and for long stretches of Wednesday night it had the crowd fully behind it. What it did not have was an answer for Sebastian Berhalter. Vancouver's Berhalter scored twice, including a deflected 64th-minute winner, as the Whitecaps beat Dallas 3-2 at Toyota Stadium and stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches.

The win lifted Vancouver to 9-1-2 and 29 points, keeping the Whitecaps at the top of the MLS table, according to the club. Dallas fell to 5-4-4 with 19 points in its final home match before the World Cup break. The loss also snapped a two-game winning streak for Dallas, according to The Associated Press.

Musa Strikes First

Dallas came out fast. Christian Cappis hit the woodwork roughly 24 seconds into the match, according to the Whitecaps' match report, and the home side did not have to wait long for a breakthrough. Logan Farrington drew a foul in the box, and Petar Musa converted the penalty in the 10th minute for his 11th goal of the season.

That goal tied Musa with Inter Miami's Lionel Messi for second in MLS, one behind Chicago's Hugo Cuypers, per the AP. It also left him one goal shy of tying Kenny Cooper's 46 for third on FC Dallas' all-time scoring list, according to the club.

Four Minutes That Flipped the Half

Vancouver turned the game around in a four-minute burst. In the 23rd minute, Berhalter struck from outside the penalty arc, and his shot hit the crossbar and went in to make it 1-1. Cheikh Sabaly and Emmanuel Sabbi were credited with the assists. Four minutes later, Dallas defender Osaze Urhoghide put the ball into his own net, and the Whitecaps led 2-1 at the break.

Sabbi's involvement was a product of the one lineup change Whitecaps head coach Jesper Sørensen made for the match, putting him on the right wing in place of Bruno Caicedo, who came on at halftime, according to the club. The adjustment paid off, and Dallas went into the locker room chasing the game.

Farrington Levels, Berhalter Answers

Dallas needed only four minutes of the second half to pull even. Ran Binyamin sent in a cross and Farrington headed it past goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka in the 49th minute. It was Farrington's fifth goal of the season, matching the career high he set in 2025, and it gave Binyamin assists in back-to-back matches, according to the club.

The equalizer lasted 15 minutes. In the 64th, Kenji Cabrera fed Berhalter just outside the area, and his first-time shot deflected off the outstretched hands of Dallas goalkeeper Michael Collodi, hit the back post and went in, as the AP described it. It was Berhalter's first multi-goal game of the season. The AP also reported that he became the first player in Whitecaps history with a goal contribution in nine of the club's first 12 matches of a season.

A Tense Finish

Dallas pushed for a second equalizer late. Takaoka sprinted across his crease to punch away a dangerous header from Dallas substitute Santiago Moreno and held firm through eight minutes of added time, according to the Whitecaps. In the 87th minute, Dallas head coach Eric Quill stepped onto the field and was sent off, the AP reported. Late in the match, Vancouver midfielder Andrés Cubas, who had nearly scored on a 35-yard shot in the first half, left with an apparent injury and was replaced by Thomas Müller.

The numbers reflected a close, physical game. Vancouver held 52 percent of possession and outshot Dallas 14-8, with six shots on target to Dallas' three. Dallas committed 17 fouls to Vancouver's 12, and the teams combined for seven yellow cards. Collodi finished with three saves, Takaoka with one.

What It Means

For Vancouver, the result was a timely reset. The Whitecaps had been held to back-to-back 1-1 draws by the LA Galaxy and San Jose, the first time this season they had gone two straight games without a win, according to the AP. They left Frisco with three points in a rematch of last season's first-round playoff series and headed to Houston for a Saturday match against the Dynamo.

For Dallas, the loss stung for the timing as much as the result. A crowd of 11,004 extended the club's regular-season sellout streak to 43 matches, but it will be a while before Toyota Stadium sees its team again. Dallas travels to San Jose on Saturday, May 16. Musa and Farrington both delivered. On this night, Berhalter delivered twice.
