Charlotte and Davidson Renew a Local Men's Soccer Rivalry Under the Lights in Spring Play
Charlotte hosted Davidson in a spring men's soccer match on its campus in March 2026. Neither school released a score, but the night offered an early look at both programs after strong 2025 seasons.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Spring soccer rarely comes with a scoreline attached, and this one did not either. Charlotte's men's soccer team hosted Davidson in a spring match on its campus field, the second of two home dates on the 49ers' 2026 spring slate. Neither school published a final score, a box score or a recap, so what is left is the match itself: two programs a short drive apart, an evening kickoff, and a first look at both rosters before the fall.
Charlotte's official spring schedule listed the match for Tuesday, March 24, at 7 p.m. at the Charlotte Soccer Field. The university said all spring home games would be played there and would be free to attend. As of this writing, neither school has posted a result for the Davidson match.
A Five-Game Spring Slate

Charlotte announced its spring schedule on March 4. The 49ers opened at home against Queens on March 7, hosted Davidson in the second of back-to-back home games, then went on the road to Maryland on March 28, Virginia on April 4 and College of Charleston on April 11.
The school framed the spring as Niner Nation's first look at what was coming in 2026. It also said the 49ers had added three spring transfers, including two from teams that played in the 2025 NCAA tournament, and that four of the program's six graduating seniors had gone on to sign professional contracts.
Coming Off a Title Season
Charlotte entered the spring as a reigning American Conference regular-season co-champion. The 49ers finished league play on Nov. 2, 2025, at 5-1-2 with 17 points, sharing the title with FAU and taking the tournament's No. 1 seed on the head-to-head tiebreaker. The school called it the program's first regular-season conference title since 2016. Charlotte's official 2025 schedule lists a final record of 8-4-4, and the 49ers hosted the conference semifinals, where their season ended on Nov. 12 when FIU advanced on penalty kicks, 11-10, after a 0-0 draw.

Davidson had a winning fall of its own. The Wildcats finished 2025 at 9-7-3, according to Davidson's official schedule, beat George Mason 2-1 at home in the Atlantic 10 tournament on Nov. 8, and then fell 1-0 at No. 22 Saint Louis on Nov. 12.
An Old Local Series
Charlotte's records trace the series back to 1976. The school's opponent history page lists the 49ers at 20-9-6 against Davidson in official matches through their last fall meeting, a 3-0 Charlotte win on Aug. 23, 2024, in which all three goals came in the second half. Spring matches like this one are not part of that record.

One Spring Evening

There is no scoreline to report from this one, and for one spring evening the result was beside the point. Two programs from the same corner of North Carolina shared a field again, with the fall still months away.
