Sophia Wilson scored in the 44th minute to give the Portland Thorns a 1-0 win over Denver Summit FC on Saturday at Providence Park, extending Portland's club-record regular-season home unbeaten run to 13 matches.

The sides were locked in a back-and-forth first half until midfielder Jessie Fleming sent a ball down the middle to find Wilson, who dribbled into the Denver box and shot past goalkeeper Kat Asman for the lone goal of the afternoon.

Asman was making the first start of her NWSL career, against the club that drafted her and never played her. She made five saves and kept Denver in the match longer than the scoreline suggested. Abby Smith missed the match with a knee injury, the first game in Summit history without her in goal.

Portland came out of halftime pushing for a second, with Wilson hitting the post on one of the Thorns' best chances of the afternoon. The second goal never came, but the Thorns stayed tight defensively to close out the clean sheet.

Mackenzie Arnold recorded her seventh shutout of the season, Portland's ninth as a team, and the first since a 4-0 win over Racing Louisville on July 5.

Milestones in the Win

Wilson's goal was her team-leading 10th of the season. She has now scored 10 or more goals in four NWSL seasons (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026), the first player in league history to do so. Fleming registered her second assist of the season on the goal, and Deyna Castellanos made her 50th career league appearance.

The result was Portland's ninth win in 13 home regular-season matches without a loss, a run dating back to September 2025. The Thorns remained unbeaten at home in 2026 at 7-3-0.

Denver, which beat Portland 2-1 when the sides met on July 18, controlled 62.5 percent of the possession and took 12 shots but could not find the final product. The expansion side sat 12th in the table at 6-8-6 with 24 points, still without Lindsey Heaps for a fourth straight match with a knee injury.
