Lacasse and Cronin Flip Deficit as Utah Completes First Sweep of Orlando Pride 2-1
Cloé Lacasse equalized and Paige Cronin scored the winner as Utah Royals FC came from behind to beat Orlando Pride 2-1 and complete a first-ever series sweep.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Trailing at the half. Winning at the whistle. Sweeping a series for the first time. Utah Royals FC flipped a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 road win over the Orlando Pride on Aug. 29 at Inter.co Stadium, snapping a two-game skid and climbing to 12-7-3 and 39 points -- second in the NWSL.
Barbra Banda opened for Orlando in the 44th. Cloe Lacasse equalized in the 50th. Paige Cronin, on as a 63rd-minute substitute, finished the winner in the 70th. Utah owned the ball (60 percent), the shots (18-8), and the shots on goal (6-2). Orlando fell to 8-12-2 and 26 points.

The Equalizer and the Winner
Mandy McGlynn had already been busy before the break, including a ninth-minute save on Banda. Utah's best early look came in the 16th when Cece Delzer drove the right side and found Kiana Palacios, whose one-touch finish slid just wide. The Pride finally broke through late in the half: Summer Yates played Banda in behind, and Banda rounded the keeper for 1-0 in the 44th.
Five minutes into the second half, the response arrived. Delzer found Palacios down the right. Palacios crossed under pressure. Lacasse finished first-time for her seventh goal of the season -- 1-1. In the 70th, Lacasse beat her marker near the goal line and cut the ball back for Cronin, whose one-touch left-footer made it 2-1. Lacasse's assist was her 10th of 2026, tying the NWSL single-season record jointly held by Tobin Heath (2016) and Croix Bethune (2024).
A late Utah penalty was waved off in the sixth minute of stoppage time. The visitors still left with three points and a first-ever season sweep of Orlando.

What It Means
Jimmy Coenraets' lineup changes worked. Tatumn Milazzo started in central defense to blunt Banda. Madison Hammond started in midfield. Palacios started up top after a San Diego cameo. The press that defines this Utah side created both goals. The first half deficit became the first time in 2026 the Royals won after trailing at the break.
For Orlando, Banda's goal was the bright spot in a night that slipped after the restart. Cosette Morche's goal faced six shots on target. The Pride's 40 percent possession and eight shots were not enough against a visitor that refused to settle for the road point.
Utah returns home Sept. 4 against Boston Legacy. Orlando stays in the middle of a standings fight that got harder with a home loss to a top-two side. Playoff math in late August is supposed to feel urgent. This one did.

The Close
Some road wins are grinders. This one was a statement after a scare. Banda scored. Lacasse answered. Cronin decided. Royals 2, Pride 1 -- and a sweep Utah had never finished before.
The film will show Palacios' cross and Lacasse's cutback. That is how these nights work -- one through ball, one substitute finish, one assist record, and the narrative locks in before the Monday meeting starts. Fans leave loud or quiet. Coaches leave with clips. Players leave knowing September does not forgive unfinished chances.
Lacasse's record-tying 10th assist is the league-wide headline. Cronin's winner off the bench is the game-state headline. McGlynn's early save on Banda is the quiet one that kept the night alive long enough for the comeback. Stack those three and you get a complete road performance from a club chasing the top of the table.
Orlando will revisit the second-half collapse and ask how a 1-0 lead became a 2-1 loss in 26 minutes of game time. Utah will revisit the press, the substitutions, and the first sweep of a Pride side that used to own this matchup. Both film sessions start from the same kickoff and end in very different places.
Delzer's involvement in the equalizer build, Milazzo's physical shifts on Banda, and Hammond's midfield minutes are the connective tissue. Stars score the goals. Structure creates them. Aug. 29 had both.
