Bye's Late Strike Seals Comeback as Timbers Sweep Sounders 2-1

Brandon Bye scored from outside the box in the 82nd minute as the Portland Timbers came from behind to beat Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 on Saturday at Providence Park, completing a season sweep of their Cascadia rivals.

Brandon Bye scored from outside the box in the 82nd minute as the Portland Timbers came from behind to defeat Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 on Saturday night at Providence Park, completing a season sweep of their Cascadia Cup rivals.

Seattle Strikes First

The Sounders took the lead in the 27th minute through Kalani Kossa-Rienzi, quieting the Providence Park crowd of 24,686. Portland answered before halftime when Kevin Kelsy equalized in the 41st minute, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.

Bye Wins It Late

The winner arrived eight minutes from time. Bye collected a pass from David Da Costa and finished from outside the penalty area, completing the comeback and sending the home supporters into celebration. Referee Joe Dickerson officiated the match, played in 74-degree sunshine.

A Historic Sweep

The victory completed a season sweep of Seattle, two weeks after Portland's 5-1 win at Lumen Field. The defeat was Seattle's sixth in a row, the first six-game losing streak in the club's MLS history.

The result moved Portland ahead of the Sounders and into eighth place in the Western Conference, holding an Audi MLS Cup Playoffs position under interim head coach Jack Cassidy.

Portland opens Leagues Cup play next, hosting Puebla at Providence Park.
