Hugo Lloris Posts MLS-Leading 11th Shutout as LAFC and D.C. United Draw 0-0
Hugo Lloris made four saves for his MLS-leading 11th shutout as LAFC and D.C. United played to a 0-0 draw at Audi Field.

Hugo Lloris has turned clean sheets into a weekly habit, and on Saturday night in Washington he needed every bit of that muscle memory.
LAFC and D.C. United played to a 0-0 draw at Audi Field, a result built almost entirely on goalkeeping and blocked shots. Lloris made four saves for his MLS-leading 11th shutout of the season, while Sean Johnson needed only one save at the other end because LAFC managed exactly one shot on target all night. Nobody won, nobody lost, and both teams left with a point that felt like it should have been more.
D.C. Starts Fast, LAFC Takes the Ball
D.C. United made Lloris work before most of the sold-out crowd had settled in. João Peglow met a Louis Munteanu cross with a header in the first minute, and Lloris saved it. The hosts kept the energy up through the opening quarter hour, with Kimito Nono and Munteanu both having shots blocked.
Then LAFC took over the ball and never really gave it back. Son Heung-Min had a left-footed shot blocked in the 23rd minute, Eddie Segura sent a header high and wide off a Denis Bouanga corner a minute later, and Segura was blocked again in the 28th. D.C. answered through Matti Peltola, whose shot from distance Lloris pushed away in the 32nd minute.
LAFC's best first-half chance came in the 36th minute, when Mathieu Choinière found Bouanga on the right side of the box and Johnson saved it low. It turned out to be the only shot LAFC put on frame all night. Son was blocked again in the 40th minute, Ryan Porteous dragged a long-range effort wide in the 43rd, and the half ended with no added time announced.
The Second Half Gets Chaotic
The second half opened with the night's wildest stretch. In the 49th minute Jackson Hopkins got on the end of a Nathan Ordaz cross and Lloris made a sharp save, and seconds later LAFC broke the other way, with Yevhen Cheberko and Jeremy Ebobisse both firing wide from the middle of the box in the 50th minute. Munteanu then sent one just wide to the left in the 53rd.
LAFC leaned on set pieces after that. Between the 57th and 61st minutes it won four corners, and Son and Ryan Hollingshead were both blocked during the barrage. LAFC said Andre Dozzell was the one who headed Son's volley clear.
Then came the moment that defined the night.
The Turning Point: The 63rd-Minute Siege
In the 63rd minute, Munteanu ripped a low shot from outside the area toward the bottom left corner, and Lloris got down to push it behind. From the corner that followed, Lucas Bartlett and Munteanu both had headers from point-blank range. Both missed to the right. Three looks inside the same minute, zero goals.
That was D.C.'s best chance to win it, and it slipped away. The rest of the match turned into a war of attrition. Brandon Servania shot wide in the 71st minute, Jude Terry and Tyler Boyd came on for LAFC and fired off long-range attempts, and Peglow went close from distance in the 84th. Late shots from Jared Stroud, Peglow, Boyd and Hollingshead all missed the target in stoppage time.
Lloris Keeps Rewriting His Own Season
Lloris was the obvious star. Four saves, four different kinds of danger: a first-minute header, a long-range drive, a first-time finish from inside the area and a low shot from distance. According to LAFC, the shutout ties his career high for a single season with the club and was his 33rd clean sheet for LAFC, in his third season with the club. As a team, LAFC now has a league-best 12 clean sheets, three more than Nashville and Houston, per the club.
Johnson was quieter but still important for D.C. His one save on Bouanga was the only one he needed, and D.C. said he added multiple clearances.
Ordaz, making his first start for D.C. against his former club, created four chances, according to D.C. Peglow was even busier, with four shots and seven chances created per the club, and Nono was credited with seven recoveries.
For LAFC, Son had four shots and all four were blocked, which tells you how compact D.C. stayed in front of its own goal. Bouanga had LAFC's only shot on target.
Stats That Matter
- Shots on target: D.C. United 4, LAFC 1, even though LAFC out-shot D.C. 17-14.
- Possession: LAFC 61.2 percent, with 636 passes to D.C.'s 401.
- Blocked shots: Nine of LAFC's attempts were blocked.
- Saves: Lloris 4, Johnson 1.
- Discipline: No yellow cards for either side; D.C. committed 11 fouls to LAFC's six.
What It Means
LAFC moved to 10-6-7 with 36 points and, according to the club, remains in the top four of the Western Conference. But the attack has stalled badly. LAFC has gone five league matches without a win, a run the AP noted came right after three straight wins by a combined 10-1, and the club says it has scored one goal in four regular-season matches since Leagues Cup ended on Aug. 12. LAFC visits Real Salt Lake next.
D.C. United moved to 5-10-7 with 25 points. The draw ended a two-match losing streak, though D.C. is now winless in five. LAFC remains unbeaten in four regular-season meetings with D.C., with two wins and two draws, per both clubs, and these teams had not met since Aug. 16, 2022, according to LAFC.
A Show About Nothing, Starring Everyone in Gloves
Seinfeld made a fortune on a show about nothing, and this match was a 0-0 that somehow had plenty going on. D.C. had more shots on target and the best chance. LAFC had the ball, the corners and a goalkeeper who apparently finds conceding goals deeply boring.
For LAFC, a point on the road is fine. One goal in four games since Leagues Cup is not. Lloris can keep turning nights like this into draws, but somebody in front of him eventually has to turn them into wins.
