FC Dallas Beat Colorado Rapids 2-1 on Two First-Half Penalties for Third Straight Road Win
Logan Farrington and Santiago Moreno scored from the penalty spot as FC Dallas beat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 for a third straight road win, despite Colorado firing 17 shots.

FC Dallas put two shots on target all night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Both were penalties, both went in, and that turned out to be the entire recipe.
Logan Farrington and Santiago Moreno converted from the spot in the first half, and Dallas absorbed 17 Colorado shots and a second-half siege to beat the Rapids 2-1 on Saturday night. Paxten Aaronson scored Colorado's goal about a minute after Farrington's, but the Rapids could not find another despite holding 65.5 percent of the ball. Efficiency, meet frustration.
Penalty, Answer, Penalty
The opening act moved fast. In the 10th minute Aaronson was whistled for a foul on Farrington inside the box, and Farrington stepped up two minutes later and placed his right-footed penalty into the bottom left corner. According to FC Dallas, it was his sixth goal of the season.
Colorado's response was instant. The Rapids stopped a Dallas attack and countered, and the home club's recap says Wayne Frederick threaded the ball to a sprinting Georgi Minoungou, who carried it down the right and crossed for Aaronson. The Designated Player finished from the center of the box in the 13th minute. 1-1, and the night had barely started.
The next half hour belonged to the hosts. Rafael Navarro forced Jonathan Sirois into a save in the 21st minute, Aaronson tested him again two minutes later, Minoungou and Darren Yapi both sent efforts over the bar, and Navarro fired one narrowly past the top right corner in the 41st. Dallas spent much of that stretch defending.
Then, with halftime approaching, Minoungou fouled Ran Binyamin in the box. Moreno sent the 45th-minute penalty into the bottom right corner for 2-1, his second goal of 2026 and his 22nd career MLS goal, per Dallas. Farrington and Lucas Herrington were both booked in stoppage time, and the teams went in with Dallas a goal up on two shots on target.
Aaronson's Complicated Night
Aaronson was everywhere, and not always in the way the Rapids wanted. He conceded the first penalty, scored the equalizer, led all players with six shots (three on target) and picked up a 73rd-minute yellow card. The Rapids said the goal was his fourth of the season and ninth of his MLS career, and that he now has three goal contributions in his last three MLS appearances.
The assist story depends on who is counting. ESPN credits Minoungou with the helper, while the Rapids credited Frederick too, calling it his fifth assist of the season. Either way, it was the one moment Colorado's attack produced exactly what it wanted.
On the other side, Sirois made four saves and was rarely asked to do anything spectacular, which is a compliment to the bodies in front of him. Dallas made 38 clearances to Colorado's 12, a number that tells you how much of this game was played in front of the Dallas goal.
There was some family-reunion energy, too. Reggie Cannon, an FC Dallas homegrown who spent four seasons with the club, started at right back for Colorado, per Dallas. The visitors' bench had a homegrown flavor of its own: the club said that for the first time this season, every available Dallas substitute had either come through the MLS SuperDraft or spent time in the FC Dallas Academy.
The Turning Point
Moreno's penalty was the dagger, and the timing mattered as much as the finish. Colorado had dominated the half after the equalizer and would have gone to the locker room level. Instead they spent the second half chasing.
The benches got busy. The Rapids sent Miguel Navarro on at halftime and Connor Ronan on for Frederick in the 59th minute, then added Alexis Manyoma, Dante Sealy and Keegan Rosenberry later on. Dallas answered with a triple change in the 65th minute, bringing on Nolan Norris, Christian Cappis and Sam Sarver. The hosts kept crossing, 34 times in all, and kept coming close: Rob Holding's header in the 66th minute just missed the top right corner, Sirois saved Navarro's header from a Sealy cross in the 76th, and Aaronson nodded wide in the 86th.
In the 87th minute, ESPN's match data shows Frederick, who had been substituted in the 59th, being shown a red card. Aaronson had one more look in the 89th, saved by Sirois, and two late Colorado shots were blocked in stoppage time. Dallas held.
Stats That Matter
- Shots: Colorado 17, Dallas 5.
- Shots on target: Colorado 5, Dallas 2, and both of Dallas' were penalties.
- Saves: Sirois 4, Colorado's Nico Hansen 0.
- Crosses: Colorado attempted 34 and completed 13.
- Clearances: Dallas 38, Colorado 12.
What It Means
Dallas improve to 7-4-4 with 25 points, and the Rapids' recap listed them fourth in the West. The club said it was their third consecutive road win, the first three-match road winning streak for Dallas since May 22 to June 4, 2005, and their first win in Colorado since Oct. 18, 2014. They did it without Petar Musa and Deedson, who were unavailable because of national team duty, per the club. Dallas return on July 22 at Portland, the first of seven consecutive road matches.
Colorado fall to 5-1-9 with 16 points, 11th in the West according to the club, and head into the World Cup break on a losing note. The second-half pressure was real, and Aaronson remains a problem for opponents. But a team that loses this one with this much of the ball has to look at its final pass. The Rapids return on July 22 at home against San Diego FC.
Closing Take
This was a heist movie with a very short script. Dallas walked in, did two clean jobs from 12 yards and spent the remaining hour sitting on the loot while Colorado pounded on the vault door. It is not pretty, but three road wins in a row rarely is.
