Georgia Beats Florida 27-8 in Atlanta as Bulldogs Turn Four Gator Turnovers Into a Rivalry Win
Georgia intercepted three passes, returned a fumble 66 yards for a touchdown and turned Florida's mistakes into 17 points at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Florida moved the ball against Georgia on Saturday. It just kept handing it back. The Gators gained more yards through the air than Georgia did, but they turned the ball over four times, and Georgia turned those gifts into 17 points on the way to a 27-8 win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Georgia improved to 7-1 and 5-1 in the SEC. Florida fell to 5-3 and 3-3. The Gators did not score until 6:59 remained in the fourth quarter.
The game came to Atlanta this year because EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville is being renovated. The rivalry heads to Tampa in 2027 before returning to Jacksonville from 2028 through 2031, and each school is receiving $7.5 million for the relocation, according to the Athens Banner-Herald as cited by National Football Post. Georgia was the designated home team, and the Bulldogs played like it from the first quarter on.
Both teams came in off a week to think
Both programs had an open date on Oct. 24, and both had something to think about. Georgia was coming off a 27-24 loss to Auburn on Oct. 17, a day that also saw Alabama and Texas lose, as our roundup of that Saturday covered. Florida was coming off the opposite feeling, a 27-24 win at Texas in Tramell Jones Jr.'s first career start.
That set up the biggest question of the week. Florida coach Jon Sumrall did not name a starting quarterback before kickoff, choosing between Jones and Aaron Philo. Philo took the first snaps. It did not last long.
Georgia came in ranked No. 3 and favored by 11.5 points. Florida came in at No. 17. The Bulldogs had won last year's meeting 24-20 on Nov. 1, 2025.
Three turnovers, 17 points
Georgia's first possession ended with a missed 43-yard field goal by Peyton Woodring, and for a few minutes it looked like this might be a grind. Then Philo threw toward the Florida 49 and Ellis Robinson IV stepped in front of it, returning the interception 8 yards to the Florida 41. Georgia needed eight plays to cash it in, and Nate Frazier scored from 1 yard out with 1:50 left in the first quarter.
Philo's second interception came early in the second quarter. Demello Jones picked off a pass at the Georgia 45 and returned it 23 yards to the Florida 32, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty tacked on more yardage. Georgia gained only 7 yards on four plays from there, but Woodring hit a 28-yard field goal with 8:55 left in the half to make it 10-0.
The next Georgia score was the only one the Bulldogs earned the long way. They went 81 yards in 10 plays, and Bo Walker finished it with a 1-yard run with 1:55 left before halftime. It was 17-0.
The turning point: a 66-yard swing before halftime
By then Jones had taken over at quarterback, and Florida had one more chance to make it a game before the break. The Gators drove into Georgia territory, and with 44 seconds left in the half they were at the Georgia 31.
Then the half fell apart. Quintavius Johnson sacked Jones at the Georgia 34, the ball came out, and Chris Cole scooped it up and went 66 yards the other way for a touchdown with 29 seconds left. Instead of trailing 17-3 or 17-7, Florida went into the locker room down 24-0.
That play was the whole game in miniature. Florida was in position to score, and it walked off with nothing while Georgia added a touchdown its offense never had to earn. Three of Georgia's four scores in the first half came directly off Florida turnovers.
A second half of near misses
The second half was a different kind of frustrating for the Gators. Georgia muffed a Florida punt early in the third quarter but fell on the ball at its own 11. A Georgia interception was wiped out by a roughing the passer penalty, which kept a Florida drive alive. And with 4:50 left in the third quarter, Florida drove deep into Georgia territory only for Braylon Conley to intercept Jones in the end zone.
Early in the fourth quarter, Florida finally got a takeaway of its own. Georgia's Talyn Taylor fumbled after a catch at the Florida 10, and Myles Graham recovered for the Gators to take points off the board. On the next possession, Jones was sacked by Gabe Harris Jr. and fumbled again, though Florida's Jadan Baugh recovered that one. Florida finally found the end zone on that drive. On fourth-and-9, Jones hit tight end Luke Harpring for 23 yards to the Georgia 10, and a short completion to Bailey Stockton set up fourth-and-goal at the 4. A pass interference penalty on Georgia gave the Gators a fresh set of downs at the 2, and Jones ran it in himself with 6:59 to play. Baugh then threw to Dallas Wilson for the two-point conversion, and it was 24-8.
Georgia answered by draining the clock. After Florida's kickoff went out of bounds, Phillips ripped off a 26-yard run, Stockton picked up a third-and-1 with his legs, and Frazier added a 13-yard carry to the Florida 13, forcing the Gators to burn their timeouts. Stockton later converted a third-and-5 with a 5-yard run to the 3, and Woodring closed the drive with a 21-yard field goal with 3:34 left to make it 27-8. Florida got the ball back once more, but on fourth-and-1 at its own 34 with 2:39 left, Cole helped stop a run for a 3-yard loss, and Georgia ran most of the remaining clock from there.
Stockton managed, the defense dominated
Gunner Stockton did not need to do much, and he did not try to. Georgia's quarterback completed 13 of 23 passes for 101 yards with no turnovers. He also kept the late field goal drive alive with his legs, converting third-and-1 and third-and-5 on quarterback runs. The Bulldogs leaned on the ground game, with Frazier running for 67 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and Dwight Phillips Jr. adding a 26-yard burst early in that same drive. Georgia finished with 217 rushing yards. Craig Dandridge had the biggest catch of the day for the Bulldogs, a 32-yard gain, and finished with three catches for 39 yards.
The defense was the story. Georgia recorded four sacks, one each from Elijah Griffin, Harris, Johnson and Cole. Cole led the Bulldogs with nine tackles to go with the fumble return that broke the game open. Robinson, Demello Jones and Conley each had an interception.
Florida's numbers looked better than its scoreboard
On paper, Florida's passing game was efficient. Jones completed 18 of 25 passes for 172 yards with an interception and ran for a touchdown. Philo was 5 of 7 for 26 yards with two interceptions before he was replaced. Bailey Stockton was the Gators' top receiver with eight catches for 76 yards, and Harpring's 23-yard grab on fourth down was their biggest play of the day.
The running game never got going. Baugh carried 17 times for 38 yards, and Florida finished with 48 rushing yards. Penalties hurt, too: the Gators were flagged eight times for 78 yards, compared with four for 32 for Georgia.
Defensively, Florida did enough to keep the game from getting out of hand. DJ Coleman led the Gators with eight tackles, Myles Graham recovered a fumble, and Emmanuel Oyebadejo had Florida's only sack. Punter Alec Clark averaged more than 50 yards per kick and pinned Georgia inside the 20 three times. The problem was that Florida's offense kept putting the defense back on the field in bad spots.

What it means
For Georgia, this was the response the Bulldogs needed after the Auburn loss. At 5-1 in the SEC, Georgia stays in the hunt in a league race that Kentucky led at 5-1 entering the weekend. The schedule does not ease up. Georgia travels to Ole Miss on Nov. 7 and then faces Missouri on Nov. 14.
For Florida, the quarterback question that hung over the open week is not settled. Philo threw two interceptions in the first half, and Jones, who won at Texas, had his own turnovers in Atlanta. Florida hosts Oklahoma on Nov. 7 and then plays at Kentucky on Nov. 14.
The last word
Georgia did not need a perfect afternoon from its offense, and it did not get one. Florida turned the ball over four times, and the Bulldogs turned three of those mistakes into 17 points. In a rivalry game played far from its usual home, Georgia looked very much at home.
