Some games are contests. This one was a highlight reel with a scoreboard attached.

Denis Bouanga scored three times in eight first-half minutes, Son Heung-Min assisted on four goals before halftime, and LAFC demolished Orlando City SC 6-0 at BMO Stadium on Saturday night. It was 5-0 at the break, Hugo Lloris made six saves to keep yet another clean sheet, and the only remaining suspense in the second half was whether Orlando could find a consolation goal. They could not.

Eight Minutes of Mayhem

LAFC came out swinging. Son had two shots blocked inside the first four minutes, Nkosi Tafari's header was blocked in the sixth, and in the seventh minute the pressure produced a gift: an own goal by Orlando center back David Brekalo. Per the club, it was LAFC's first first-half goal since the season-opening win over Inter Miami on Feb. 21. Apparently they were saving them up.

Orlando had a brief response, with Iván Angulo forcing Lloris into a save from distance in the 11th minute. Then the floodgates opened.

In the 20th minute, Son slipped a through ball to Bouanga on a fast break, and Bouanga finished low into the bottom left corner. Three minutes later, another LAFC break, another Son pass, another Bouanga finish, this time to the bottom right. Bouanga even found time to pick up a yellow card in the 26th minute before Son teed him up again in the 28th for a strike into the top left corner. Three shots, three goals, hat trick complete.

Per LAFC, it was the fourth-fastest hat trick from the start of a game in MLS history, and Bouanga became one of four players in league history to score three goals in less than a 10-minute span. It was his fifth MLS hat trick and his first since Sept. 21, 2025.

Son was not done. In the 39th minute he found right back Sergi Palencia in the middle of the box, and Palencia rifled a right-footed shot into the top right corner for 5-0. LAFC and Orlando both credited Bouanga with a secondary assist on that one; ESPN's data lists Son alone.

Son's Four-Assist Half

Four assists in a single half is the kind of stat line usually reserved for video games on easy mode. LAFC said Son set a new club record for assists in an MLS half and in a game, and that he became just the second player in MLS history with four assists in a single half.

Head coach Marc Dos Santos made it clear he does not judge his No. 7 on goals alone. "Sonny has been amazing for our group," he said, per MLS. "He doesn't have to score every time. He has to help the team, and that's what he's doing."

And then, the line of the night: "It was savage, the way he played."

LAFC's five first-half goals tied the club record for the most in a single half, per the club.

A Quieter Second Half

Both coaches made changes at the break, and Son and Bouanga were withdrawn together in the 58th minute with the job long since done. One of their replacements chipped in anyway. Jacob Shaffelburg, making his LAFC debut, lofted a cross in from the left in the 70th minute, and Tyler Boyd headed it into the bottom left corner for 6-0. The club said it was Boyd's first goal for LAFC, in his first league start for the club, and his 10th in MLS. He went off injured three minutes later, replaced by Jeremy Ebobisse in his 2026 debut.

Orlando kept shooting, and Lloris kept saving. After the break he denied Zakaria Taifi, Angulo, Martín Ojeda twice and Luis Otávio, with Ojeda finishing as Orlando's busiest attacker at five shots.

The Stars

Denis Bouanga. Three shots, three goals, all inside the first 28 minutes. Clinical does not quite cover it.

Son Heung-Min. Four assists, four shots, and the kind of passing that made Orlando's back line look like it was playing in a different time zone.

Hugo Lloris. Six saves for his sixth clean sheet of the regular season and, per LAFC, the 30th shutout of his MLS career.

Sergi Palencia. His first goal of the season and second for LAFC, from a right back who wandered into the box at exactly the right time.

Stats That Matter

  • Shots on target: LAFC 8, Orlando 6. LAFC turned eight shots on target into five goals by their own players, plus the own goal.
  • Saves: Lloris 6, Maxime Crépeau 2.
  • Possession: Orlando 56.5 percent, LAFC 43.5. The ball does not score goals; Bouanga does.
  • Shots: LAFC 17, Orlando 12.

What It Means

LAFC move to 5-1-0 with 16 points, and the club said the result left them first in both the Western Conference and the Supporters' Shield standings as the league's only unbeaten team. They have now kept a clean sheet in all six league games, which LAFC said extends its MLS record shutout streak to open a season to 540 minutes. Up next is Cruz Azul in the first leg of a Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday, then a trip to Portland on April 11.

Orlando fall to 1-0-5 with three points, and the road has been brutal. They have played three away matches this season and lost them 5-0 at New York City FC, 5-0 at Nashville and now 6-0 in Los Angeles. Per the club, Orlando were without Robin Jansson, Griffin Dorsey, Wilder Cartagena, Joran Gerbet and Tyrese Spicer through injury. They finish their three-game road swing at Columbus on Sunday, April 12.

Interim head coach Martín Perelman did not hide from it. "It's not easy. Defeats hurt," he said. "We are not the first team in the history of this league to experience something like this and we're not going to be the last one."

The Final Word

Palencia offered the most LAFC summary imaginable. "We always play with ambition, we want more, we want more goals," he said.

For 90 minutes, the Black and Gold looked like a team playing on a cheat code, and with Cruz Azul next, they will need every bit of it.
