Elias Achouri Scores San Diego FC's 100th MLS Regular-Season Goal in 3-0 Win Over Rapids
Onni Valakari, Elias Achouri and Gabriel Pirani scored as San Diego FC beat the Colorado Rapids 3-0, with Achouri's goal the club's 100th in MLS regular-season play.

Some nights, soccer is about volume. Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium was about value. San Diego FC took six shots, put four of them on target and turned three into goals, beating the Colorado Rapids 3-0 in a Western Conference game that was never as even as the possession chart suggested.
Onni Valakari opened the scoring in the 27th minute, Elias Achouri doubled the lead eight minutes later with what the club says was its 100th goal in MLS regular-season play, and Gabriel Pirani finished a fast break in the 71st minute. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Colorado, which arrived in San Diego having won its previous three matches without conceding a goal.
Colorado Starts Bright, San Diego Strikes First
The Rapids had the better of the opening stretch. Dante Sealy fired high and wide from the right side of the box in the 10th minute, and Hamzat Ojediran sent a shot from outside the box just wide in the 24th. Colorado's own recap noted the visitors began with promising opportunities, and on balance that was fair.
Then San Diego settled in, and the Rapids' back line started to wobble. In the 27th minute, according to the home side, Colorado failed to clear its lines and Valakari pounced on the loose ball near the six-yard box, sending a right-footed finish from the center of the box into the bottom left corner. A minute later, Luca Bombino tested Nico Hansen from the left side of the box, and in the 30th minute Achouri nearly made it two when Oscar Verhoeven slipped him through on a fast break, only for his shot to drift just wide.
He did not miss the next one. In the 35th minute, San Diego took advantage of what it described as a defensive miscue by Colorado, and Achouri drilled a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner. The club said it was his first goal for San Diego, and that it was the 100th regular-season goal in the club's MLS history. Not a bad way to open an account.
Colorado nearly answered before the break. Georgi Minoungou had a shot blocked in the 42nd minute, and Paxten Aaronson whistled one just past the top right corner in the second minute of stoppage time.
Three Changes, Same Problem
Rapids leadership did not wait around. Colorado sent on Youssef Maziz, Wayne Frederick and Darren Yapi at halftime, replacing Ojediran, Josh Atencio and Sealy. The changes injected some energy. Aaronson got a shot on target in the 57th minute, only for CJ dos Santos to save it, and Rafael Navarro had an effort blocked in the 63rd. Reggie Cannon picked up a yellow card in between.
San Diego stayed patient and then went for the kill. The hosts brought on Marcus Ingvartsen for Valakari in the 67th minute and Amahl Pellegrino for Achouri a minute later, and the fresh legs paid off almost immediately. In the 71st minute, Ingvartsen fed Pirani on a fast break, and Pirani steered a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner.
Colorado kept pushing for a consolation. Kosi Thompson had a shot blocked in the 73rd minute and headed over off a corner in the 82nd, and Loïc Williams forced dos Santos into his second save with a header from a Keegan Rosenberry cross in the 84th. Ingvartsen left with an injury in the 86th minute, with Lewis Morgan replacing him, and Rosenberry and Alex Harris were both booked in the closing minutes.
Who Stood Out
Achouri was the headline act. He scored on one of his two shots, nearly added another on the break, and set up Bombino's first-half chance with a headed pass. For a player who had not scored for the club before Saturday, it was a milestone night in more ways than one.
Valakari and Pirani were similarly ruthless, each scoring with his only shot of the night. Ingvartsen made a 19-minute cameo count with the assist before his injury exit.
Dos Santos did not have to be spectacular, but he was sharp when called upon, making two saves. San Diego says it was his third clean sheet of the 2026 regular season.
Bombino deserves a nod, too. Play was stopped twice in the first half for an injury to the left back, in the 14th and 38th minutes, and he still went the distance.
The Turning Point
Achouri's goal in the 35th minute. Colorado had started brighter, had been unlucky with a couple of looks, and at 1-0 the game still had a Rapids-flavored path back. The second goal, born from another Colorado mistake, flipped the entire mood. Once San Diego had a two-goal cushion, it could sit back, absorb pressure and wait for the counterattack that eventually came through Ingvartsen and Pirani.
Stats That Matter
- Finishing: San Diego scored three goals from six shots; Colorado put two of nine on target.
- Possession: Dead even, with Colorado at 50.2 percent and San Diego at 49.8.
- Saves: Dos Santos made two, Hansen one.
- Discipline: Colorado committed 21 fouls and collected three yellow cards. San Diego committed 13 and received none.
- Ball winning: Colorado won 17 of its 21 tackles and made 14 interceptions, but those numbers did not prevent the errors that mattered.
What It Means
San Diego improved to 7-6-8 with 27 points and got even in the season series after losing 1-0 at Colorado on July 22. The club billed the result as its fourth straight home win, and the timing could hardly be better: the LA Galaxy visit Snapdragon Stadium next Saturday.
Colorado slipped to 9-1-11 with 28 points. According to the Rapids, they sit seventh in the West with San Diego 11th, a reminder of how compressed the middle of the conference is. Colorado's next match carries extra stakes, as Real Salt Lake visits with the 2026 Rocky Mountain Cup on the line, per the club.
Closing Take
This was San Diego playing the role of the card shark at the poker table. Colorado held the ball just as long, took more shots and swung in three times as many crosses, and San Diego simply waited for the tell. Two Rapids mistakes, two goals, one counterattack, game over. Efficiency is not glamorous, but three points and a club milestone look pretty good on a Saturday night in San Diego.
