Velde, Lassiter and Da Costa Score as Timbers Top San Diego FC 3-1
Kristoffer Velde scored one goal and set up another as the Portland Timbers defeated San Diego FC 3-1 on Thursday night at Providence Park.

Kristoffer Velde scored in the 29th minute and assisted David Pereira Da Costa's 68th-minute insurance goal as the Portland Timbers defeated San Diego FC 3-1 on Thursday night at Providence Park, with Ariel Lassiter adding the go-ahead goal six minutes into the second half.
Timbers Strike Early and Late
Velde opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing a pass from Cole Bassett to give Portland a 1-0 lead. San Diego leveled in first-half stoppage time when Gabriel Pirani converted a feed from Lewis Morgan, sending the teams into the break tied 1-1.

Portland needed only six minutes of the second half to retake the lead. Lassiter finished a Jimer Fory assist in the 51st minute, and Da Costa sealed the result in the 68th, scoring off a Velde assist to complete the 3-1 scoreline.
Clinical Against the Run of Play

San Diego controlled 70 percent of possession and pushed Portland for long stretches, but the Timbers were the more efficient side in front of goal. Referee R. Vazquez issued three yellow cards on the night.
Second Win in Three
The result was Portland's second victory in three MLS matches, following a 2-1 loss at Chicago Fire four days earlier. The Timbers continued a stretch of high-scoring home performances at Providence Park.
