Ninety degrees, a cloudless Saturday afternoon in Foxborough, and a Houston Dynamo defense that has apparently decided goals are something that happen to other people. Guilherme struck in first-half stoppage time, rookie center back Agustín Resch climbed for his first career MLS goal after the hour, and Jonathan Bond took care of everything else.

The Dynamo beat the New England Revolution 2-0 at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 8, in a game that was supposed to be played back on March 7 before field conditions forced a postponement, according to the AP. The result pushed Houston's unbeaten streak to six matches and gave Bond a third straight clean sheet. The Revolution, meanwhile, watched a three-game unbeaten run end in front of 22,038 fans.

New England Blinks First

For a good chunk of the first half, this looked like New England's afternoon. Carles Gil jumped on a loose Houston touch inside two minutes and found Peyton Miller, whose left-footed drive from distance forced Bond into an early save. Miller tested him again in the 28th minute after a string of headers and flicks worked the ball into the box, and again Bond got there.

Houston's answers came from range. Guilherme sailed two efforts over the bar, Matt Turner had to get full length to keep out a Mateusz Bogusz curler in the 37th minute, and Artur dragged a shot just wide off a corner in the 43rd.

Then came the sequence that flipped the game. New England had its best spell right before the break, with Brooklyn Raines, Gil and Dor Turgeman all having attempts blocked in the 44th and 45th minutes. Seconds into stoppage time, the ball went the other way. Ezequiel Ponce's shot was blocked, the rebound sat up near the six-yard box, and Guilherme swept it into the bottom right corner. Houston went to the locker room up 1-0 after weathering New England's best stretch.

The second half belonged to the visitors. Turner made saves on Guilherme in the 48th minute, Bogusz in the 53rd and Héctor Herrera in the 60th. Marko Mitrović turned to his bench in the 54th minute, sending on Jack Harrison and Cody Baker, but before the changes could settle in, Houston won a corner. Jack McGlynn swung it in during the 63rd minute and Resch headed it into the bottom right corner.

The All-Star, the Rookie and the Wall

Guilherme was the most dangerous player on the field: five shots, three on target, one goal. That is his 11th of the season, and the AP noted he has those 11 in 18 appearances in his first year in the league. Per the Dynamo, the Brazilian has now been directly involved in 18 of Houston's 26 goals this season, the kind of share that keeps opposing coaches up at night.

Resch is the feel-good story. The Dynamo describe him as a 6-foot-6 center back picked 69th overall in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, and on Saturday he attacked McGlynn's delivery like a man who had seen the play drawn up a hundred times. McGlynn's assist was his sixth of the season.

Then there is Bond. He only needed two saves, both in the first half while New England was still pushing, and the clean sheet was his sixth of the campaign, per the AP. The wire service added some perspective: it was his 13th clean sheet in 44 starts since he joined Houston last season, after he managed four shutouts in 89 starts with the LA Galaxy. That is a goalkeeper living his best life.

For New England, Harrison provided the brightest spot. The Revolution said the winger, making his club debut and his first MLS appearance since 2017, completed all four of his dribbles and put up two shots in 36 minutes. His last swing in stoppage time was blocked. Miller, per the club, matched his MLS career high with two shots on target, and those were the only two New England put on frame all day.

One Minute Before Halftime

If you want one moment, it is the first minute of first-half stoppage time. New England had just thrown three attempts at the Houston box and come away with nothing, and then it conceded on the very next meaningful attack. Heading into the break down a goal on a 90-degree day changes everything about how a team can chase a game. Once Resch doubled the lead, the Revolution were chasing again with nearly half an hour to play against a back line that showed no interest in bending.

Stats That Matter

  • Shots on target: Houston 7, New England 2. Both Revolution efforts on frame came from Miller.
  • Saves: Matt Turner 5, Jonathan Bond 2. The Revolution and the AP both credited Turner with six; ESPN's match data has five.
  • Crosses: New England sent in 24 crosses and completed five.
  • Clearances: Houston cleared the ball 32 times to New England's 14.
  • Corners: New England won nine to Houston's four, but the only set-piece goal belonged to the Dynamo.

Houston Is Climbing Fast

Houston improved to 10-2-6 with 32 points, and the Dynamo said the win left them two points shy of first place in the Western Conference. The AP called them the hottest club in the West, with eight wins, two draws and two losses across their last 12 matches, and the club noted it had not conceded in nearly 300 minutes. That stretch includes last week's 2-0 win at Sporting Kansas City, so this is not a one-off. The LA Galaxy are next up for Houston.

New England fell to 9-3-6 with 30 points. Gillette Stadium has been a fortress this year, with eight wins, a draw and now two losses there, which is exactly why dropping a game it controlled early will sting. Next up is a trip to Toronto FC on Aug. 15.

Licensed to Blank

The name's Bond. Jonathan Bond. Three straight clean sheets, six straight games without a loss and a back line that cleared the ball 32 times without blinking. These Dynamo are neither shaken nor stirred, and the rest of the West should probably start sweating.
