Rose Lavelle and Gotham FC Rout Bay FC 3-0 Despite Jordan Silkowitz's 12 Saves
Gotham FC scored three first-half goals, including Rose Lavelle's first of the season, to beat Bay FC 3-0 in the rain despite 12 saves from Jordan Silkowitz.

Jordan Silkowitz made 12 saves on Saturday afternoon in Harrison, New Jersey. Bay FC still lost by three. That is the kind of math that tells you everything about how lopsided this one was.
Gotham FC beat Bay FC 3-0 at a rain-soaked Sports Illustrated Stadium, getting a Karlie Lema own goal, Rose Lavelle's first goal of the season and an Esther González penalty, all before halftime. It was Gotham's first home win of the 2026 regular season and its fourth clean sheet in six matches. The reigning champions outshot Bay 25-2, put 14 attempts on target and turned an ugly-weather matinee into a shooting drill.
A Siege From the Opening Whistle
Gotham went to work immediately. Savannah McCaskill fired high in the fifth minute, Jaedyn Shaw forced Silkowitz into a save with a header in the 11th, and in the 18th minute Silkowitz stopped Jaelin Howell and then González in quick succession. The Bay goalkeeper was doing everything she could. It was not going to be enough forever.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute. McCaskill's shot from the middle of the box was blocked, the ball bounced around in a crowded area, and it ended up in the Bay net off Lema. 1-0, and a reward for 20 minutes of nonstop pressure.
Lavelle had been circling all half. Silkowitz denied her from the right side of the six-yard box in the 29th minute and again from outside the area in the 40th, but moments after that second save, rookie Jordynn Dudley dribbled into the box and slid the ball to Lavelle, whose left-footed finish went into the bottom right corner. 2-0.
Then came the dagger. Lavelle drew a foul from Maddie Moreau in the box in first-half stoppage time, and González sent the penalty into the bottom left corner in the sixth added minute. Three goals in one half, and Bay had not managed a single shot.
The Second Half Belonged to Silkowitz
Gotham did not ease up after the break. Silkowitz saved from Dudley in the 47th minute, from Howell in the 48th, from González in the 51st and from Shaw in the 52nd. Most goalkeepers would take one of those as a good day's work. Silkowitz kept stacking them, adding stops on Dudley again in the 71st minute and on Talia Sommer in the 90th.
Bay's lone shot on target came in the 58th minute, when Lema's attempt from the center of the box forced Ann-Katrin Berger into a save. Hannah Bebar's effort in the 78th minute went wide. That was the full extent of Bay's attack.
Gotham coach Juan Carlos Amorós made the obvious point afterward. "Today it's our fourth clean sheet in six games, which is an unbelievable record," he said, before adding the slightly greedier, very coach-like follow-up: "We wanted to score more goals."
Stars of the Afternoon
Lavelle was everywhere. She took seven shots, put four on target, scored one and drew the penalty for another before Sarah Schupansky replaced her in the 65th minute. Per Gotham, the goal was her 13th in the regular season for the club, tying her with Nadia Nadim for sixth-most regular-season goals in club history.
González took four shots, put three on target and stayed perfect from the spot. Gotham says she is now 3-for-3 on regular-season penalties, tied with Midge Purce and Carli Lloyd for second-most made in club history, and the goal was her fourth career goal against Bay.
Dudley, meanwhile, recorded her first professional goal contribution with the assist, according to the club. She also put two of her four shots on target before Mak Whitham, making her first appearance of the 2026 regular season, replaced her in the 77th minute.
And then there is Silkowitz. Bay FC says her 12 saves set a club record and tied the NWSL record. On most nights, that line comes attached to a clean sheet and a postgame interview. Here it came attached to a 3-0 loss.
The Turning Point
The first 20 minutes. Bay needed to survive the early storm and did not. Once Lema's own goal went in, the dynamic was set: Gotham had a lead and all the ball, while Bay never found an answer in possession. Gotham held 58.8 percent of the ball and completed 423 passes to Bay's 258. Per the club, Gotham held an opponent without a first-half shot for the first time since Oct. 5, 2025, against Seattle.
Gotham also did this without Lilly Reale and Emily Sonnett, who were listed as unavailable. New signing Guro Reiten made her club and NWSL debut at left back and played the first half, and captain Tierna Davidson made her first start of the season, per the club.
Stats That Matter
- Shots: Gotham 25, Bay 2.
- Shots on target: Gotham 14, Bay 1.
- Saves: Silkowitz 12, Berger 1.
- Possession: Gotham 58.8 percent, Bay 41.2.
- Tackles: Gotham 18, Bay 7.
What It Means
Gotham moves to 2-2-2 with eight points and ends a four-match winless run that included home draws with North Carolina and Orlando, a home loss to Denver and a defeat at Kansas City. The club says it was the first time Gotham scored three first-half goals since April 26, 2025, against Washington, and its first home match with three first-half goals since 2013. A midweek trip to the Chicago Stars comes next, followed by a home match against Racing Louisville FC.
Bay falls to 2-0-3 with six points after a second straight shutout loss, following a 2-0 home defeat to Washington. The club heads to San Diego on Sunday, May 3, still looking for the attack that produced two wins in its first three matches.
Closing Take
Silkowitz played like the last hero standing in a disaster movie, blocking everything she possibly could while the building came down around her. Gotham, meanwhile, finally looked like the champion it is supposed to be. If the rain was a test of resolve, the hosts passed with room to spare.
