Guro Reiten's First NWSL Goal and Jaedyn Shaw's Quick Strike Carry Gotham FC Past Racing Louisville
Guro Reiten scored her first NWSL goal and Jaedyn Shaw struck 35 seconds into the second half as Gotham FC beat Racing Louisville FC 2-1 at Lynn Family Stadium.

Guro Reiten picked a Friday night in Kentucky to score her first NWSL goal, and she made it a beauty. Jaedyn Shaw needed about 35 seconds of the second half to make it stand up.
Gotham FC beat Racing Louisville FC 2-1 at Lynn Family Stadium on Friday night. Reiten's curling strike from outside the box opened the scoring in the eighth minute, Kayla Fischer headed Louisville level in the 17th, and Shaw slotted home the winner in the 46th off a Sam Kerr pass. Gotham bounced back from a 3-0 loss at Denver Summit FC and finished a season sweep of Racing. Louisville has now lost four straight.
A Norwegian First
Gotham came out like a team annoyed by its last result. Jordynn Dudley forced Jordyn Bloomer into a save in the sixth minute and Rose Lavelle had a shot blocked two minutes later. On the ensuing corner, Shaw teed up Reiten, who took aim from distance and bent a left-footed shot into the top left corner. Gotham says the strike came from 23 yards and made Reiten the first Norwegian to score in the NWSL.
Louisville did not flinch. Katie O'Kane forced a save from Ann-Katrin Berger in the 16th minute, and on the next sequence Courtney Petersen's delivery from the right clipped the post and dropped for Fischer, who headed it in from point-blank range. VAR confirmed the goal. It was Fischer's seventh of the season, tying Emma Sears for the club lead, and Racing says it was the first set-piece goal Gotham had conceded all year.
"Courtney put in such a good ball, and she almost scored on that one," Fischer said, per Racing. "So, I mean it was right on the goal, and I had to do something and put it in."
Gotham Hits the Woodwork, Racing Hangs On
The rest of the first half tilted heavily toward the visitors. Bloomer saved from Dudley again in the 24th minute and from Midge Purce in the 29th, Tierna Davidson blazed over off a corner, and Lavelle smacked the left post in the 36th. Racing survived to halftime level, and head coach Bev Yanez later singled out that first half as the best part of the night.
"To be honest, I'm very proud of the group," Yanez said afterward, per Racing.
Thirty-Five Seconds
Then the restart happened. Gotham says Shaw's goal came at 45:35, the fastest second-half goal in the NWSL this season, and it was a gorgeous team move. Per Gotham, Jess Carter launched Dudley down the right with a long ball, Dudley found Lavelle in the middle, Lavelle slipped in Kerr on the right and Kerr squared it across the box for Shaw, who finished right-footed into the bottom right corner. Five players, 90 yards, one of the prettiest goals Lynn Family Stadium will see all year.
Yanez was blunt about the timing. "[We] can't concede off of a kickoff that early into the second half," the Racing coach said.
Louisville pushed for a second equalizer. Maja Lardner dragged a close-range chance wide in the 47th minute, and Fischer had efforts in the 55th and 56th, one blocked and one wide. Substitute Emma Sears forced Berger into a save in the 73rd. That was Racing's final shot of the night. Gotham, holding 71.7 percent of the ball over the match, simply kept it away from them.
Star Turns
Shaw had a hand in both goals: the corner assist for Reiten and the winner. Gotham says it was her team-leading seventh goal of the season and the 10th regular season game-winner of her career. Kerr's assist, per the club, was her fifth career game-winning regular season assist, a Gotham record, and gave her 14 game-winning regular season goal contributions, passing Purce for another club mark.
Reiten went off in the 82nd minute with an injury, according to ESPN's feed, after an evening that will stay in her scrapbook. Dudley put two of her three shots on target before leaving with an injury of her own in the 62nd.
There were milestones up and down the lineup, too. Gotham says Savannah McCaskill made her 50th regular season appearance for the club, becoming the 27th player to get there, and Purce became the 75th player in NWSL history to reach 10,000 career regular season minutes. Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós framed the night as a collective effort. "We needed everyone," he said, per Gotham.
For Louisville, Fischer led all players with four shots, and Racing says she now has 11 goal contributions in 2026, five more than her previous career high. Bloomer made four saves and kept the margin to one.
The Turning Point
The 46th minute decided it. Racing had matched Gotham's early goal and, by the club's numbers, finished with more expected goals (1.57 to 1.11) and more big chances (four to two). Conceding in the first minute of the second half meant chasing a team that rarely gives the ball back, and Gotham never let the game open up again.
Stats That Matter
- Possession: Gotham 71.7 percent, Louisville 28.3.
- Passes: Gotham completed 445 of 526, Louisville 125 of 203.
- Shots on goal: Gotham 6, Louisville 3.
- Saves: Bloomer 4, Berger 2.

What It Means
Gotham improves to 14-6-4 with 48 points. Both clubs said the win put Gotham five points clear at the top, with Gotham noting Washington sits second. It was Gotham's seventh road win of the season and its first win in four matches after draws with Angel City FC and Portland and the loss in Denver. Next up is a trip to North Carolina.
Louisville falls to 7-2-15 with 23 points, and Racing says it remains 13th. The four-match skid follows a four-match winning streak in August. Racing visits Bay FC on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Closing Take
Racing midfielder Sarah Weber found the silver lining. "It's definitely a game to be proud of, in a way," she said, per the club. Pride is nice. Points are better, and Gotham, like a band that knows exactly which song closes the show, took them.
