Ninety minutes of a 90-degree Friday night in Houston produced a pile of saves, two shots off the post and zero goals. Then Linda Ullmark got one more swing.

Ullmark scored in the first minute of second-half stoppage time to give the Houston Dash a 1-0 win over Bay FC at Shell Energy Stadium in front of 7,270 fans. Avery Patterson set it up, Jane Campbell and Jordan Silkowitz each made seven saves, and the Dash finally won again after a four-match winless run. For Bay FC, it was the most painful way possible to see a three-match unbeaten streak end.

Goalkeepers' Night Out

The first half belonged to the woodwork and the goalkeepers. Kennedy Fuller nearly stole the opener for Bay FC in the eighth minute, when a quick combination found her in space and her shot from outside the box clanged off the left post. Houston answered with a pair of long-range efforts from Danielle Colaprico and Ullmark that both drifted wide.

Campbell, the Dash captain, denied Caroline Conti from distance in the 28th minute. At the other end, Silkowitz made her best stop of the half in the 37th, rising to keep out Leah Klenke's header off a corner, and she handled a Patterson shot from outside the box six minutes later. Patterson had already been booked in the 39th minute. Kiki Van Zanten went just over the bar in the 42nd, and in first-half stoppage time Karlie Lema had Bay FC's best look, a shot from the center of the box that Klenke blocked.

The Second Half Shootout That Wasn't

The second half opened like a tennis rally. Silkowitz stopped Van Zanten in the 47th minute, and Campbell answered by stopping Alex Pfeiffer a minute later. Silkowitz then held a long-range Ullmark shot in the 58th, and Campbell made back-to-back saves on Conti in the 61st and Pfeiffer in the 63rd.

Both coaches went to their benches in the 65th minute. Bay FC sent on Cristiana Girelli and Keira Barry for Lema and Pfeiffer, Houston replaced Van Zanten with Clarissa Larisey, and Larisey forced Silkowitz into another save almost immediately. Barry headed narrowly wide in the 72nd minute.

The late stretch felt like it was building toward something. Claire Hutton forced Campbell into a save in the 84th minute, and seconds later Sarah Puntigam, on as a 75th-minute substitute, crashed a shot from outside the box off the right post. Silkowitz denied Ullmark again in the 86th, and Campbell got to Hutton's long-range effort in the 90th.

Then the board went up for five added minutes, and Houston struck almost immediately. Patterson found Ullmark, and the rookie fired a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom left corner. Houston's club account says she turned inside the box and beat Silkowitz at the near post, while Bay FC called it an unlucky deflection. Either way, it counted. Joelle Anderson forced one more save from Campbell a minute later, but that was the last real chance.

The Standouts

Linda Ullmark led all players with five shots and three on target, and kept shooting until one went in. The Dash say it was her second goal of the season and the 10th goal by a Dash rookie in 2026, which is half of the 20 that rookies have scored in league play this year. It was also Houston's third stoppage-time winner of the campaign, per the club.

Jane Campbell made seven saves, and several were anything but routine, with Conti, Pfeiffer and Hutton all forcing her to work. Jordan Silkowitz matched her with seven for Bay FC and deserved a clean sheet as much as anyone on the field.

Avery Patterson earned her first assist of the season, according to the Dash, and got three shots away herself. Klenke, who the club says leads all 2026 NWSL rookies in minutes played, led Houston with seven clearances.

"Obviously really disappointed and really frustrated with the result tonight," Bay FC head coach Emma Coates said. "Felt like the goal kind of came against the run of play, and that we conceded so late hurts, but we dust ourselves off and have another game to prepare for mid week."

The Turning Point

Puntigam's shot off the post in the 84th minute was the warning, and Ullmark's goal was the follow-through. Bay FC had seen out a nervy stretch with Silkowitz in top form, but Houston kept finding shooting room from the edge of the box, and eventually one of those looks was going to land.

Stats That Matter

  • Shots: Bay FC 18, Houston 16. Both teams put seven on target.
  • Saves: Campbell 7, Silkowitz 7.
  • Possession: Bay FC held 51.7 percent.
  • Corners: Bay FC 8, Houston 4.
  • Woodwork: One post for each side, Fuller in the eighth minute and Puntigam in the 84th.

What It Means

Houston improves to 5-4-7 with 19 points. It was the Dash's first win since beating Angel City 2-1 at home on May 23, and their first home match since that night, after a run of a 1-0 loss at Gotham, a 2-1 loss at Washington and draws at Denver and Louisville. For a team that had drawn its previous two matches, three points at home is a much-needed reset. The Dash host Gotham FC on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Bay FC drops to 5-3-7 with 18 points, and the club noted that the loss came at the exact halfway mark of its season, 15 matches played and 15 to go. The unbeaten run that ended here included a 2-2 draw at Boston, a 2-0 win at Louisville and a 3-0 home win over North Carolina. Coates gets her quick turnaround: Bay FC hosts Gotham, the defending NWSL champion, on Wednesday.

Closing Take

The Dash saved the plot twist for the post-credits scene. The game looked destined for 0-0, Bay FC had a point in its pocket, and then Ullmark showed up after the credits rolled and changed the whole movie.
