Haley McCutcheon's Late Brace Hands Angel City Its First Loss as Orlando Pride Win 2-1
Haley McCutcheon scored in the 84th minute and again at 90+8 after Gisele Thompson's stoppage-time stunner, as the Orlando Pride beat Angel City FC 2-1 and ended its perfect start.

For 83 minutes, the Orlando Pride and Angel City FC played a tense, grinding stalemate. Then the final stretch turned into a soap opera, complete with VAR reviews, a thunderbolt off the crossbar, and a captain who refused to let the script end in a draw.
The Orlando Pride beat Angel City FC 2-1 on Friday night at Inter&Co Stadium, with Haley McCutcheon scoring in the 84th minute and again in the eighth minute of stoppage time. Gisele Thompson's rocket at 90+2 had looked like it would steal a point for Angel City, but McCutcheon poked home the winner off a corner six minutes later, handing the visitors their first loss of the season in front of 8,040 fans.
Banda Versus the Wall
The first half belonged to Orlando's attack and Angel City's defense. Barbra Banda was the central figure from the opening whistle, and she spent most of the night trying to get past Sarah Gorden and Angelina Anderson. In the 10th minute Banda got in behind, only for Gorden to chase her down and Anderson to make the stop.
McCutcheon headed over in the 11th minute, and Banda put another effort high from a tight angle two minutes later. The best Orlando chance of the half came in the 30th minute, when Rafaelle rose at the far post to meet a cross and Anderson pushed her header away from the top of the goal. Banda tested Anderson again from outside the box just before halftime, and the keeper got down to keep it scoreless.
Angel City, despite holding most of the ball, rarely threatened. Ary Borges blasted over on a fast break in the 35th minute, and Kennedy Fuller had a couple of efforts blocked. It was 0-0 at the break, and it felt like it could stay that way all night.
A Slow Burn, Then a Fire
The second half started with Banda forcing Anderson into another save in the 46th minute, this time at the top right corner. Sveindís Jónsdóttir had Angel City's best look of the period in the 55th minute, sliding a shot just wide after a fast break.
Then the game got choppy. Orlando had to make an injury substitution in the 58th minute, sending on Summer Yates, and later had to replace Oihane Hernández with Hannah Anderson for the same reason in the 77th. Angelina and Banda were both booked in a three-minute span, and Marta came off the bench in the 66th minute. Taylor Suarez nearly gave Angel City the lead in the 81st minute, but her shot from the center of the box slid just past the left post.
Three minutes later, Orlando finally broke through. Per the Pride, Hannah Anderson found Banda on the left, Banda beat her defender and drilled a low ball into the box, and after a couple of deflections McCutcheon was there to finish into an open net. Angel City said both McCutcheon goals went through lengthy VAR reviews for possible offside before they were upheld.
The Turning Point: Ninety-Eight Minutes of Madness
Angel City did not fold. Moments after Rafaelle was booked for a handball in stoppage time, Evelyn Shores' free kick was blocked and the ball came loose to Thompson at the edge of the box. She hit it with her left foot, and it ripped into the top right corner off the underside of the bar. 1-1, and the Pride's clean sheet was gone on Angel City's first shot on target of the night.
With 10 minutes of added time announced, there was plenty left. Prisca Chilufya pulled a shot just wide for Angel City at 90+6, and Maiara Niehues missed from distance a minute later. Then Orlando won a corner, and McCutcheon reacted fastest in the scramble, poking the loose ball in from close range. Per Orlando, the winning corner was delivered by Marta.
McCutcheon, Captain Clutch
McCutcheon's two goals were her first of 2026 and the first brace of her career, per the Pride. The club said the winner was the fourth game-winning goal of her career across all competitions and lifted her to nine goals in all competitions for Orlando, tied for sixth in club history with Ally Watt.
Banda did not score, but she led the match with six shots and put three on target. She was the reason Angel City's back line never got comfortable. On the other side, Anderson made four saves and Gorden earned a big compliment from Angel City head coach Alex Straus. "Sarah is probably one of the fastest and strongest defenders in the league," he said.
Thompson's goal was her second of the season, according to Angel City, and it was a stunner.

What It Means
Orlando improves to 2-2-1 with eight points and extends its unbeaten run to four matches, per the club. It was also the Pride's first home win of 2026, after a loss to Seattle Reign FC and a draw with Denver Summit FC at Inter&Co. Moorhouse earned her 40th career win, which the Pride said makes her just the 10th goalkeeper in NWSL history to reach that mark. Head coach Seb Hines summed it up well. "Tonight was very much a roller coaster of emotions," he said. "The roller coaster comes from scoring goals that were disallowed. The players showed great resilience to never give up." The Pride return on April 24 at Racing Louisville FC.
Angel City falls to 3-0-1 with nine points, with its three-match winning start to the season now over. Straus did not hide his frustration. "Today, we could have gone away from here with a very, very good point and played an almost perfect away game," he said. "But we threw it away in the end. And that's unacceptable for us as a team and as a unit." Angel City hosts the Portland Thorns on April 26.
Closing Take
Gorden, the Angel City captain, put her finger on the problem. "This is a difficult result for us to allow them to score in 90-plus, because we do feel like that is a mentality thing, which is what we've been working on," she said. Angel City did the hard part, finding a stoppage-time equalizer on the road. Then it blinked one more time than Orlando did, and McCutcheon made it pay.
