Barbra Banda Sets Orlando Pride Single-Season Goals Record in 3-1 Win Over Houston Dash
Barbra Banda's penalty set an Orlando Pride single-season goals record and Haley McCutcheon volleyed in a third as the Pride beat the Houston Dash 3-1 at Inter&Co Stadium.

Sunday night in Orlando came with a weather delay of more than 90 minutes, according to the Dash. Barbra Banda made the wait worthwhile, stepping up to the penalty spot just before halftime and walking away as the owner of the Pride's single-season scoring record.
Orlando beat the Houston Dash 3-1 on Sunday night at Inter&Co Stadium. A Leah Klenke own goal put the Pride ahead in the 14th minute, Banda converted a 44th-minute penalty and later set up Haley McCutcheon for a 64th-minute volley, and Kiki Van Zanten headed in a consolation goal for Houston in the 72nd. It was Orlando's fifth straight home win over Houston, according to the club.
Orlando Comes Out Swinging
From the opening whistle, Orlando played like a team with somewhere to be. Oihane Hernández forced a save from Jane Campbell in the sixth minute, McCutcheon and Hernández had shots blocked in quick succession, and Campbell stopped Banda from the middle of the box in the 11th.
The opener came in the 14th minute, moments after Cosette Morché saved a Kat Rader shot at the other end. Banda drove at the Houston defense, and the ball ended up in the Dash net off Klenke. Not pretty, but they all count. Houston's attacking moments were sporadic: Danielle Colaprico sent one over the bar in the 12th minute, and Cate Hardin, back in the starting lineup for the first time since July 18 per the Dash, dragged a shot from distance just wide in the 34th.
Banda kept probing. She sent one high from distance in the 19th, forced Campbell into another save in the 21st and dragged a shot high and wide in the 38th. Orlando piled up a dozen attempts before halftime, and half of them were blocked by a Houston defense that kept throwing bodies in the way.
Banda Makes History
In the 42nd minute, Summer Yates went down under a challenge from Klenke and referee Rodrigo Albuquerque pointed to the spot. Banda took it two minutes later and rolled it into the bottom left corner. Per the Pride, it was the first penalty of her NWSL career and her 14th goal of the season, setting a new club record for goals by one player in a single NWSL season. The club added that she became just the fifth player in league history to score double-digit goals at home in a single season.
Houston thought it had an instant reply when Rader found the net a minute later, but the Dash say the goal was wiped out because Kate Faasse was offside in the buildup. Orlando went to the break up 2-0.
McCutcheon's Moment
Houston rolled the dice in the 56th minute with a triple change, sending on Van Zanten, Lisa Boattin and Sarah Puntigam. The Dash created chances: Rader tested Morché from distance right after halftime, Faasse forced a save in the 57th and Avery Patterson had a shot saved in the 64th.
But the next goal went to Orlando, and it was gorgeous. Seconds after Patterson's effort, the Pride broke the other way, McCutcheon exchanged passes with Banda and smashed a left-footed volley from the middle of the box into the top right corner. According to Orlando, it was McCutcheon's fourth goal of 2026 and a new single-season career high.
"I think that we did exactly what we wanted to do. We came out strong," McCutcheon said, per the Pride. "So we're really happy and I think that looked like the old Orlando Pride."
She also credited the plan from interim head coach Yolanda Thomas. "[Yolanda Thomas] really stressed our defensive principles in shape and pressing, and so, I think we executed and kind of gave them nothing," McCutcheon said. Houston's seven shots on target suggest the Dash got a little more than nothing, but the Pride never let them build real momentum.
Star Turns
Banda finished with a goal, an assist and a match-high seven shots, three on target. The Pride say the assist gave her four goal contributions over their last three matches. McCutcheon added three shots and two on target. Off the bench, Solai Washington fired four shots in the final 28 minutes and kept Campbell busy deep into stoppage time.
Morché made six saves at the other end. For Houston, Campbell matched her with six saves, and the Dash put seven of their 12 shots on target. Van Zanten's header, on a cross from fellow substitute Khyah Harper, was her fifth goal of the season and Harper's first assist in league play, per the Dash.
The Turning Point
Banda's penalty swung the night. Orlando had dominated the first 40 minutes but led only on an own goal, and Houston was still one swing away from level. The penalty, followed a minute later by the disallowed Rader goal, took the air out of the Dash, and McCutcheon's volley midway through the second half put the result beyond doubt.

What It Means
Orlando moves to 9-2-12 with 29 points and bounces back from a 2-1 home loss to Utah the previous weekend. The Pride, under interim head coach Yolanda Thomas, head to Kansas City on Friday, Sept. 11.
Houston falls to 7-5-11 with 26 points. The Dash closed a three-game road trip with three straight defeats, losing at Bay FC, at Seattle Reign FC and now in Orlando, and scored once in that stretch. There was one bright spot on the night: the Dash say Paige Nielsen made her 150th career appearance, becoming the 55th player in NWSL history to get there. Houston hosts the Utah Royals on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Closing Take
Records usually fall in dramatic fashion. Banda's fell on a penalty, on a night that started late because of the weather. Fitting, really. The Pride needed patience on Sunday night, and their best player made sure it paid off.
