Jess Fishlock Passes Megan Rapinoe for Seattle Reign Regular-Season Goals Record in Win Over Boston Legacy
Jess Fishlock scored twice from outside the box to pass Megan Rapinoe as the club's all-time regular-season scorer, and the Seattle Reign beat Boston Legacy FC 2-0.

Some records fall with a tap-in. Jess Fishlock broke hers with two absolute missiles from outside the box.
The Seattle Reign captain scored in the 23rd and 64th minutes on Friday night at Lumen Field, and the Reign beat Boston Legacy FC 2-0 in front of 7,116 fans. Per the club, the brace moved Fishlock past Megan Rapinoe as Seattle's all-time leading scorer in the regular season, with 52 goals. Fishlock announced earlier this year that 2026 will be her final season, which makes the timing feel less like a stat-sheet footnote and more like a farewell tour hitting its encore.
A Press That Would Not Quit
Boston had the ball. Seattle had the plan. The Legacy controlled 67 percent of possession in the first 15 minutes, according to the club, but the Reign spent the opening stretch hunting turnovers and sprinting the other way the moment they got one.
The first warning came in the 14th minute. Ainsley McCammon picked off a pass and found Maddie Dahlien, who flicked it into Fishlock, and Casey Murphy had to sprawl to keep out the shot. Deja Davis was booked in the 18th minute for a foul on Dahlien, and five minutes later the press paid off.
Dahlien intercepted a pass near midfield and played it into Fishlock, who drove toward the edge of the box and hammered a dipping, right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Lumen Field had been waiting for that one.
Seattle should have doubled the lead before halftime. Mia Fishel missed a header from point-blank range off a 37th-minute corner, and Sofia Huerta's header from a Maddie Mercado cross in the 43rd forced a kick save from Murphy.
Boston Pushes, Dickey Answers
The Reign came out flying again, with Dahlien testing Murphy in the 46th minute, but the Legacy had their best spell of the night around the hour mark. Claudia Dickey, who needed treatment for an injury in the 53rd minute, stayed in and made both of her saves two minutes apart: Alba Caño's shot from the center of the box in the 57th and Aïssata Traoré's low effort in the 59th. Bianca St-Georges and Caño each had shots blocked in the 63rd as Boston kept knocking.
That was as close as the visitors got. Boston had already sent Lilly Reale on for Davis in the 56th minute, and it added Amanda Gutierres and Ella Stevens for Bárbara Olivieri and Sammy Smith in the 75th. Stevens fired high and wide almost immediately after a corner, and the Legacy's late pressure, including a Sarah Schupansky ball over the top for Stevens that the club said just missed connecting, never produced a clean look at Dickey.
The Turning Point: The Counter That Rewrote the Record Book
In the 64th minute, with Boston committed forward, McCammon split two defenders with a pass into Fishlock. The captain moved it out to Dahlien on the flank, Dahlien drove forward and laid it back, and Fishlock settled it with one touch before ripping a shot from outside the box into the top right corner. 2-0, ballgame, and history.
Fishlock came off four minutes later, replaced by Sally Menti. Fishel nearly added a third in the 71st minute with a curler that crashed off the crossbar.
Star Turns
Jess Fishlock finished with two goals on four shots, three of them on target, and every one of those shots came from outside the box. At this stage of a career, most players are managing minutes. Fishlock is still embarrassing goalkeepers from distance.
Maddie Dahlien was the engine on the left, assisting the second goal, winning three fouls and starting the first goal with her interception.
Ainsley McCammon did not show up in the box score, but the club singled out the 19-year-old for her passing, and she started several of Seattle's best moves, including the counter for the second goal. When a teenager is threading balls through a midfield like that, people notice.
Maddie Mercado, whom the club calls Seattle's leading scorer, did not find the net but kept the Legacy honest, supplying the cross for Huerta's first-half header and steering a header of her own just wide in the 58th minute.
Claudia Dickey made two saves to protect the shutout, and the Reign's 18 interceptions in front of her made sure she was not busy for long stretches.
For Boston, Caño was the most active attacker with three shots, one on target, and Murphy kept the score respectable with three saves.
Stats That Matter
- Possession: Boston 59.3 percent, Seattle 40.7.
- Shots: Seattle 15, Boston 8; on target, Seattle led 5-2.
- Interceptions: Seattle 18, Boston 8.
- Crosses: Boston attempted 20 and completed one.
- Saves: Murphy 3, Dickey 2.
What It Means
Seattle moved to 12-4-10 with 40 points, and the club says the win temporarily pushed the Reign into sixth place. It also stopped a two-match slide after losses at Angel City and Denver. The real headline for the back line is a historic one: per the club, Seattle became the first team in NWSL history to record five straight home shutout wins in the regular season. The Reign also took both meetings with Boston this season, after a 2-1 win in Rhode Island in May.
Boston, playing its inaugural season, fell to 7-5-14 with 26 points and has now lost two straight, following a 2-1 home defeat to Houston the previous weekend. The loss also ended what the Legacy called a record-setting 13-game scoring streak. According to the Reign, Boston had not been held scoreless since May 13.
Next up, Boston visits Portland on Oct. 3, while Seattle hosts the North Carolina Courage at Lumen Field in its annual Queen's Match, where the club plans to honor Fishlock.
Closing Take
There is a version of a final season that turns into a slow goodbye, all ceremonies and handshakes. Fishlock is not interested in that version. Friday felt more like a legendary band playing its last tour and still ripping the guitar solos note for note. Boston brought the possession. Fishlock brought the hits.
