The Kansas City Current walked into Wednesday night without a win in three matches. Twenty minutes later, that slump felt like ancient history.

Haley Hopkins and Debinha each scored twice, Amelia White added her first career NWSL goal, and the Current crushed Racing Louisville FC 5-1 at CPKC Stadium. Per the Current, Debinha's second goal was her 82nd across all NWSL competitions, tying Lynn Biyendolo for the most in league history, and the win stretched Kansas City's league-record home unbeaten streak to 25 matches.

Three Goals Before the Drinks Break

Head coach Chris Armas said the final slide of his pregame meeting carried one word: attack. His players took it literally. In the fifth minute, Croix Bethune split the Louisville defense for Lo'eau LaBonta, Jordyn Bloomer made the first save, and Hopkins was waiting to tap in the rebound from close range. The Current said it was their earliest goal of the regular season.

The second goal was the kind you watch on loop. In the 15th minute, Izzy Rodriguez kept a move alive from the left, Hopkins nodded the ball across the six-yard box, and Debinha met it on the volley, steering a right-footed finish into the bottom left corner. Five minutes after that, Bethune slipped White in behind on the break, and White kept her cool one-on-one with Bloomer to make it 3-0. It was White's first NWSL regular-season goal and, per the club, Bethune's seventh assist of the season, a new single-season Current record that also had her tied for the league lead.

Louisville tried to respond. Sarah Weber fired wide in the 28th minute, Rachel Hill had a shot blocked in the 35th, and Audrey McKeen, making her first career NWSL start at 17 according to Racing, sent a shot wide in the 37th and a close-range header wide in stoppage time. Marisa Jordan also had to dive to keep out a long-range Courtney Petersen strike late in the half. But it was 3-0 at the break and it felt like more.

Same Movie, Second Half

Kansas City came out of halftime and did it all over again. In the 48th minute, Bloomer saved a Debinha shot from distance but could not hold it, and Hopkins pounced for her second rebound goal of the night. The Current said it was her first career NWSL brace.

Four minutes later came the record-tying moment. Bayley Feist picked off a loose touch near midfield, fed Hopkins, and the ball moved from Hopkins to Debinha to Feist and back to Debinha, who finished first time from the middle of the box. Five goals, 52 minutes, and Armas started emptying the bench, pulling Debinha a minute later.

Louisville found some life after that. Weber forced Jordan into saves in the 56th and 57th minutes, Maja Lardner was stopped in the 66th, and White hit the crossbar for Kansas City in the 68th. Emma Sears then drew a foul from Katie Scott in the box in the 75th minute, the penalty was confirmed by VAR, and Taylor Flint converted to the bottom left corner in the 81st. Racing said it was Flint's third penalty goal of the season.

The Night's Biggest Names

Debinha: Two goals, five shots, three on target. Per the Current, the opener stood as the 20th game-winning goal of her NWSL career, making her just the third player in league history to reach that mark, and she now has 58 regular-season goals, sixth-most in league history. The club also said her nine goals and five assists against Louisville across all competitions are the most by any player against a single NWSL opponent since Racing joined the league in 2021.

Haley Hopkins: Two goals and an assist. Two of her three shots went in.

Croix Bethune: The assist on White's goal, the through ball that started the opener, and a club record to show for it.

Sarah Weber: Louisville's most dangerous player with five shots, two on target.

The Turning Point

Debinha's 15th-minute volley. At 1-0, Louisville was still in the game and the early goal was a scramble. The second one was a statement, an acrobatic finish that told everyone in the building which way the night was heading. Racing never recovered from it.

Stats That Matter

  • Shots on target: Kansas City 10, Louisville 5.
  • Saves: Bloomer 5, Jordan 4. Bloomer was busy and still beaten five times.
  • Possession: Kansas City 57.3 percent.
  • Crosses: Louisville sent in 21, and only two found a teammate.
  • First 20 minutes: Three goals, which the Current said was their first three-goal first half since June 2025, also against Louisville.

What It Means

Kansas City improves to 9-1-7 with 28 points and, by the club's count, sits sixth. It snapped a three-match winless run that included a 3-0 loss at Orlando, a 2-2 home draw with San Diego and a 1-0 defeat at Boston. Vanessa DiBernardo, who came on in the second half, also earned her 100th career NWSL win, becoming the fourth player in league history to get there, per the Current. Kansas City hosts Angel City FC on Saturday.

"Goals change games, and tonight you could see that," Armas said.

Louisville falls to 3-2-11 with 11 points. It was Racing's second game in four days after its first road win of the season at Angel City, and the club made eight changes to its starting lineup. Head coach Bev Yanez did not hide from it. "Obviously, we're disappointed in the result, we're disappointed in the scoreline," she said, adding: "To be totally truthful and transparent, we don't have much time to dwell on this."

"I think we need a little bit of consistency, not as up and down," Kayla Fischer said. Louisville hosts the Chicago Stars on Saturday.

Closing Take

Some teams treat a slump like a crisis. Kansas City treated it like a montage scene in a sports movie: a couple of bad weeks, one pregame slide that says attack, and suddenly everything goes in. Debinha now shares the top spot on the NWSL's all-competitions scoring list, and if this version of the Current shows up every night, CPKC Stadium is going to stay a very lonely place for visitors.
