The ninth minute of stoppage time is where good nights go to unravel. Orlando City had theirs wrapped up: Antoine Griezmann on the scoresheet, Martín Ojeda in the club record books, a 2-1 lead and the clock deep into added time. Then James Sands found Jonathan Shore on the right side of the box, and Shore rolled a right-footed shot into the bottom-left corner.

New York City FC left Inter&Co Stadium with a 2-2 draw on Saturday night, a point the visitors celebrated like a trophy and one the hosts, in front of 21,525, will be replaying for days. Alonso Martínez gave NYCFC an 18th-minute lead, Griezmann and Ojeda turned it around either side of halftime, and Talles Magno missed a penalty before Shore's late equalizer rescued him.

A Wild First Half in Orlando

Orlando started fast. Eduard Atuesta had a shot blocked inside two minutes, and in the sixth minute Griezmann powered a header at Matt Freese, who needed treatment after making the stop. NYCFC answered through Martínez, who fired over in the 10th minute, forced a save from Maxime Crépeau in the 12th and had a shot blocked in the 14th.

The fourth try worked. Hannes Wolf traded passes with Nicolás Fernández Mercau and sent a low cross into the box, Crépeau could not hold it, and Martínez tapped in from close range for 1-0, per NYCFC's account.

Freese could not continue, and Tomás Romero replaced him in the 28th minute. Romero had barely warmed up before Vinícius Nogueira tested him with a header, and two minutes later he was picking the ball out of the net. Martín Ojeda swung in a cross and Griezmann headed it into the top-left corner to make it 1-1.

The visitors thought they had gone back in front in the 39th minute when Fernández Mercau turned in a Kevin O'Toole cross, but the flag was up. It was level at the break.

Ojeda Makes History, Magno Misses

Andrés Perea headed wide early in the second half, and Orlando punished him two minutes later. Iván Angulo crossed from the right, Nogueira nodded the ball back into danger, and Ojeda finished left-footed into the bottom-right corner in the 49th minute. That goal made him the first player in club history to reach 50 goals in all competitions, according to Orlando City.

NYCFC kept coming. Crépeau saved from Agustín Ojeda in the 66th and from Wolf in the 68th. Pascal Jansen sent on Shore and Magno in the 71st minute, and seven minutes later Wilder Cartagena brought Magno down in the box. After a lengthy delay, Magno stepped up in the 81st and sent his penalty just wide of the left post.

Magno spent the rest of the night chasing redemption. He headed over in the 85th minute, headed just over again in the second minute of nine added, and had a shot from the six-yard box blocked in the sixth. Perea dragged a shot wide in the ninth. And then, with Orlando one clearance from three points, Shore delivered.

Stars of the Night

Antoine Griezmann scored with a thumping header, put both of his shots on target and kept adding to a remarkable debut stretch. Per Orlando City, it was his 13th MLS goal of 2026 and extended his run of MLS matches with a goal contribution to 11, one shy of the club record Ojeda set last season. The club also says he is the first player in MLS history with a goal contribution in 13 of his first 15 league matches, and he became the second-fastest player in league history to reach 20 goal contributions, behind only Lionel Messi.

Martín Ojeda had a goal and an assist, and both came with history attached. The 50th goal was a club first, and the assist on Griezmann's header was his 47th for the Lions across all competitions, tying former captain Mauricio Pereyra for the club record.

Maxime Crépeau made five saves and played through a late knock that stopped play in the 88th minute. Without him, Orlando never reach stoppage time with a lead.

Alonso Martínez had four shots, two on target and one goal before he was replaced in the 82nd minute.

Jonathan Shore needed one shot. One shot, one goal, one rescued point.

The Turning Point

Jansen's 71st-minute double change. Magno won the penalty within seven minutes of coming on, and even after missing it he was NYCFC's most persistent attacker, finishing with four shots. Shore, introduced at the same moment, had the final word. Without those two changes, NYCFC probably go home empty-handed.

Stats That Matter

  • Shots: NYCFC 17, Orlando 10.
  • Shots on target: NYCFC 7, Orlando 4.
  • Possession: NYCFC held 55.8 percent of the ball.
  • Corners: NYCFC won nine to Orlando's three, and four of them came in stoppage time.
  • Saves: Crépeau made five. Freese and Romero combined for two.

What It Means

Orlando move to 12-6-13 (wins, draws, losses) with 42 points, level with FC Cincinnati in seventh place in the East after Saturday's results, as the AP noted in its Cincinnati recap. The draw ended a run of five straight home wins and left Orlando unbeaten in four, while the club says their scoring streak across all competitions, already a club record, now stands at 24 matches. Interim head coach Martín Perelman did not hide the sting: "Unfortunately, they tied on the last play. That hurts a lot."

There was at least one personal bright spot. Nogueira, who joined in August, logged his first goal contribution for the club. "A really good feeling today, my first assist for the team, and it's a really important point for us," he said.

NYCFC move to 8-11-12 with 35 points and are winless in five, with three draws in that run. They have one win in their last eight. They also stay unbeaten against Orlando this season after a 5-0 home win in March.

The Closing Take

Orlando had the whole movie ready to go: a World Cup winner scoring again, a club legend making history, a home crowd ready to celebrate. NYCFC crashed the post-credits scene. In a playoff race this tight, that is the kind of cameo that gets remembered on Decision Day.
