Barbra Banda's Brace Sends Orlando Pride Into the World Cup Break With 3-1 Win Over Bay FC
Barbra Banda scored twice and set up Cori Dyke as the Orlando Pride beat Bay FC 3-1 on Friday in their last match before the NWSL's World Cup break.

The weather got the first say, pushing the opening whistle back by more than an hour. Then Barbra Banda took over.
Banda scored in the fourth minute, scored again in the 51st and set up Cori Dyke for a third four minutes later as the Orlando Pride beat Bay FC 3-1 on Friday night at Inter&Co Stadium. It was Orlando's last match before the NWSL pauses for the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, and the Pride head into the break with back-to-back wins, a striker in absurd form and 17 points from 12 matches.
Fast Start, Faster Answer
Orlando wasted no time. Luana nodded a ball into Banda's path in the center of the box, and the forward finished with her left foot barely four minutes in, with 8,140 fans in the building. According to the Pride, it was the earliest goal the club had scored all season, and it was Luana's first NWSL assist.
Bay FC needed just three minutes to respond. An Orlando clearance went wrong, the ball fell to Caroline Conti on the right side of the box, and the midfielder steered a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Bay's recap noted it was Conti's first goal of the year, and it was the club's first goal since a May 15 draw with Boston Legacy FC.
The visitors nearly went ahead in the first half too. Bay said Sydney Collins headed home a Racheal Kundananji delivery before an offside flag wiped it away. Anna Moorhouse then had to deal with Cristiana Girelli in the 19th minute and a Hannah Bebar drive from distance in the 30th. Orlando's best answer was a Nicole Payne shot from the right side of the box that flew high and wide. At the break it was 1-1, and Bay had arguably been the better side.
The Turning Point: A Four-Minute Knockout
Head coach Seb Hines sent on Summer Yates for Kerry Abello at halftime, and the move paid off almost immediately. Bay opened the second half with a flurry, with Bebar shooting wide twice and Kundananji getting blocked, but the Pride struck on their first real look.
In the 51st minute Yates slid a through ball behind the Bay back line, Banda won the race and slotted a right-footed finish past Emmie Allen. Four minutes later Banda turned provider. After a throw-in in Bay territory, she laid the ball to Dyke on the right side of the box, and the defender ripped a right-footed shot into the top right corner.
Two goals in four minutes turned a coin-flip game into a comfortable one. Hines admitted after the match that the first-half wobble had bothered him.
"It's always nice to take the lead early, but there was disappointment with how quickly we conceded after scoring," Hines said. "I thought the first half was fairly even, and I knew we could go to another level."
Bay Pushes, the Woodwork Says No
Bay fell behind but did not fold. Karlie Lema came off the bench in the 62nd minute and forced a save from Moorhouse in the 76th after a clever through ball from fellow substitute Onyeka Gamero. Three minutes later Conti nearly had her second, striking a first-time effort from outside the box off the crossbar. Claire Hutton then forced Moorhouse into another stop in the 80th minute.
Orlando had to survive the final stretch shorthanded. Banda went off injured in the 81st minute with the Pride already out of substitutes, leaving them with 10 players. Bay piled on corners and crosses, Kelli Hubly headed two late chances wide, and seven minutes of stoppage time came and went without a goal.
Star Turns
Barbra Banda had two shots, two on target, two goals and one assist. That is not a stat line, that is a cheat code. The Pride said the brace was her league-leading third of 2026 and gave her an NWSL-leading 11 goals. It was also her eighth career regular-season brace, which the club said ties her for third in NWSL history.
Cori Dyke turned up at the right end of the field at the right time. Her strike was her first goal of 2026 and the second of her NWSL career, per Orlando, and it was the dagger.
Summer Yates changed the second half after coming on at the break. The through ball for Banda's second goal was her first assist of the season and her seventh across all competitions with the Pride, according to the club.
Caroline Conti was Bay's best player, with the equalizer, the shot off the bar and two attempts in total before she was subbed off in the 82nd minute.
Stats That Matter
- Ruthless finishing: Orlando put four of its eight shots on target and scored three times.
- Bay's volume: Bay outshot Orlando 14 to 8 and held 54.5 percent of possession.
- Moorhouse's night: four saves, to one for Allen.
- Defending the box: Orlando made 27 clearances to Bay's 12.
- Clean game: neither team picked up a yellow card.
What It Means
Orlando moved to 5-2-5 with 17 points and backed up its 1-0 win at San Diego with a second straight victory. The Pride said they have scored in eight consecutive matches, one shy of the club record of nine set in 2025, and have scored in 11 of their 12 games this season. They also remain unbeaten against Bay all-time, according to the club. Their next match is July 3 at Angel City FC.
Bay FC fell to 3-2-6 with 11 points. That is three straight losses, after a 2-0 defeat at Portland and a 1-0 home loss to the Chicago Stars, and five matches without a win since a 1-0 victory at San Diego on May 3. Bay returns on July 5 at Boston Legacy FC in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Closing Take
Bay did plenty right on Friday. It created more shots, kept more of the ball and hit the bar. But football keeps score in goals, not vibes, and Orlando has a forward who turns half-chances into full ones. The Pride go into a month off with Banda on a heater. The only bad news is that she has to wait until July to keep it going.
