Morgan Guilavogui's First RSL Brace Ends Road Drought in 3-1 Win at Sporting KC
Morgan Guilavogui scored twice and Sergi Solans added a goal as Real Salt Lake beat Sporting Kansas City 3-1 for their first road win since March 7.

Noel Caliskan pushed up the left, looked up and found Morgan Guilavogui arriving late. One right-footed finish later, in the 61st minute at Sporting Park, Real Salt Lake had a two-goal cushion and the Designated Player had the first brace of his RSL career.
That goal put the finishing touch on a 3-1 Real Salt Lake win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night, and it ended one of the stranger droughts in the league. According to RSL, it was the club's first road win since March 7 at Atlanta, snapping a 13-game winless run away from home across MLS and Leagues Cup play. For a team clinging to playoff hope with four games left, a road win against a rival is the kind of result that changes the vibes on the flight home.
Two Goals, Three Minutes
Sporting actually started brighter. Taylor Calheira had a left-footed look from the left side of the box in the seventh minute that slid just wide to the right, and Sporting coach Raphael Wicky said afterward that his side had 10 good minutes to open the match.
Then RSL flipped the switch. In the 11th minute, Caliskan fed Guilavogui on the left side of the six-yard box, and Guilavogui buried a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. RSL said it was his first goal since Aug. 19 against FC Dallas. Three minutes later, after Guilavogui had another effort blocked, Sergi Solans finished from the center of the box into the bottom right corner for 2-0. The club said it was Solans' 12th MLS goal of 2026 and his 16th across all competitions.
RSL kept pushing. Stefan Cleveland stopped Guilavogui in the 15th minute and Saba Lobjanidze in the 25th, but Sporting struck back almost immediately. In the 26th minute, André Luiz tore away on a counter, dragged two defenders with him and laid it off for Calheira, who rifled a right-footed shot into the top right corner to make it 2-1.
The rest of the half belonged to the visitors. Luc de Fougerolles and Kobi Henry both put headers wide from Juan Manuel Sanabria deliveries, Cleveland stopped Lobjanidze again in the 41st minute, and Sanabria cleared the bar by a whisker in the 44th. De Fougerolles was booked in first-half stoppage time, and RSL went in up a goal.
Henry Saves, Guilavogui Strikes
The match nearly turned in the 53rd minute, when RSL said Henry headed the ball off the goal line after a giveaway at the back to keep the lead intact. Sanabria then forced Cleveland into a save in the 58th.
Three minutes later, the Caliskan and Guilavogui connection struck again. Guilavogui finished from the left side of the box into the center of the goal for 3-1, and the air went out of the building.
Sporting had one big moment left. In the 67th minute, Calvin Harris hit the left post from the center of the box after an Emir Karic cross from a corner. The final stretch got testy, with Sanabria, Harris, Jacob Bartlett, Zach Booth, Stijn Spierings and Jansen Miller all booked after the 70th minute, and Rafael Cabral made his only save of the night on an Ian James shot in the first minute of stoppage time.
Guilavogui and Caliskan Run the Show
Morgan Guilavogui was the best player on the field. He took four shots, put three on target and scored twice, and he was also involved in the sequence that led to the second goal. Noel Caliskan assisted both of his goals, which is a tidy night's work for a midfielder.
Sergi Solans scored on his only shot. Stefan Cleveland made five saves for Sporting and did not deserve to concede three, while Taylor Calheira took his goal well and was refreshingly honest about the night. "Enough is enough and we need to do better and create a better standard," Calheira said, according to Sporting KC.
The Turning Point
The three minutes between the 11th and 14th minutes decided this. Sporting had the better start and a real chance through Calheira, then let RSL score twice in a flash. Wicky did not dodge it. "We don't score and then we fall asleep twice," he said, according to the club. "We don't track. We don't follow."
Stats That Matter
- Shots on target: RSL put eight on target, Sporting three.
- Total shots: RSL outshot Sporting 13-8.
- Possession: Nearly even, with Sporting at 50.8 percent.
- Goalkeeping: Cleveland made five saves; Cabral needed just one.
- Defending: RSL made 20 tackles and 27 clearances, compared with five tackles and 16 clearances for Sporting.
What It Means
RSL move to 10-6-14 (wins, draws, losses) with 36 points. The club listed RSL 10th in the West and acknowledged it remains multiple points outside the ninth and final playoff place, with four regular-season matches to go in pursuit of a sixth consecutive playoff berth. Pablo Mastroeni kept the same starting lineup from Wednesday's 1-1 home draw with San Jose, per the club, and it paid off. RSL also completed a season sweep, after winning the April meeting 3-1 at home, and the club said it is now unbeaten in six against Sporting. Next up is a home date with St. Louis CITY SC on Oct. 24.
Sporting fall to 6-4-20 with 22 points. MLS listed them as the first club ruled out of playoff contention, and this was a second straight loss after a 4-0 defeat at Nashville on Oct. 14. Calheira summed up where the club is in plain terms. "We're trying to get out of last place," he said.
Wicky went further. "Tonight was not good enough. I apologize," Sporting's head coach said. "Tonight was not what we showed for the last two months." He also put a number on the problem: "Eighty percent is not enough to win more games or to be more competitive."
The Closing Take
Thirteen road games without a win is a Cast Away level of isolation, and RSL finally spotted the rescue ship in Kansas City. Whether it arrives in time for the playoffs is another question, but Guilavogui, Caliskan and Solans looked like a trio who have no interest in being stranded.
